After my son was born prematurely dur to iugr and absent edf i knew i would be monitored closely. Well, all went well until i saw the consultant at 36 weeks. He said if baby dropped below 10th centile they would deliver, also he said no induction. i had a section with my first and he obviously felt that induction was not going to be an option.
Well all he said came true. At 37 weeks another scan showed she hadnt grown, she was quiet and not bouncing around my abdomen as usual. With 2 consultants opinions i knew my dream of a vbac 'fixing' all my prvious trauma was not going to happen! After a week of monitoring, steriod shots etc my c section was booked for 21/12/12!
Being deemed an 'elective' made the experience so much better. Starting from a different ward, a nicer theatre, a more relaxed environment than with my son. I was made to feel at ease adn all at once realised that another c section was right for me. I shall never experience 'normal' birth or contractions, but in having a section i knew that i was guarenteeing things happening and no risk of an emcs- something that terrified me!
well, in theatre, lying on side, the canula hurt more than the spinal...didnt feel it, last tiem it took 3 attempts that HURT. this was amazing.....the doc realised that i was not squeamish so they were willing to drop the drapes....i felt pressure, then the drapes dropped and i watched my precious girl arrive into the world. She was v quickly dryed and placed onto my chest.....absolutley perfect. Fixed so many previous scars to be able to see and hold my baby first! Amazing, i am so glad i had a section :) HOwever, then daddy held and dressed her, she was weighed etc... he left with her, i was to join the m in recovery, then i realised they all looked worried. I wa sbleeding and they souldnt stop it, i was already stitched up, my uterus wouldnt contract. They kept adding drugs to my iv. In the end, i had a balloon thing put into my uterus. Then told i had to go to hdu....i thought it was all going so wrong! It turns out hdu was also delivery suit. They were so busy they closed to new labouring women. I got to breastfeed as soon as we got there....she fed perfectly, weve had no problems! I was meant to be on frequent obs, but no one ever showed up. My daugheter was in the resus cot the other side of the room and i was told to not get up!! (i was walking with 2 hours- sod them) it was hell, i was by the midwife station, all i could hear was them talking all night, labouring women and crash calls....hell! Jessica was perfect, fed well and didnt cry. I shouldnt have been moving around with the balloon and a urine catheter in, i kept getting told to go to bed, but what was i supposed to do, leave my daughter all night? It took an hour to get pain relief..then wen i refused morphine i could hear them talking about it and putting it in my notes.....:haha: they kept saying i didnt look like someone who has just given birth or had a c section!! i cant keep still anyway :) I was still nil by mouth.....had been for so long, so saturday mornign had to be on a drip cus docs too busy to see me! I said it wasnt in, but they were sure it was. Que half hour later, swollen arm and hand....onyl jsut been able to put rings on now!! Any way, got my ballon and catheter out...all went well, thankfully no more surgery required, what a relief! Got sent to the ward....more chaos.
Barely ever saw midwife, the whole ward had 2 and that was it! Sunday was told i could go home...not bad comsidering i spent friday and sat inhdu, docs were gonna keep me in longer but i was having no treatment, not even paracetamol and the wards were full. By 7pm, everyone kicked off, apparentyl the paperwork wastn done so no one could go! I had had no visitors sunday because i tought i would be leaving, i hadnt seen my son, so i kicked off and threatened to self discharge...i was one of the few they then did paperwork for.......we laft at 11pm! i had to carry jeesica and car seat down the stairs to meet hubby at entrance of maternity unit, because no visitors were allowed on trhe ward!!
Thankfully i found this all amusing adn still see it all as a positive. A little sad i will have no more childre, after one prem and her stopping growing and my bleeding i think i should quit now! ( id have a footie team full if i could)

So Jessica Elsie born 10.34am weighing 5lb 10. My beautiful little term baby :)
