Carly's thread on Maddi splashing, got me thinking. I'd LOVE to take my baby swimming, not just to play but to actually swim.

How old do they have to be? And do they even do baby swimming classes? Or just groups where you take them to mess around?

I cant swim, and i never want my child to be like that, i would like them to be able to swim from a very young age

Thanks x

usaully after there 1st injections, love so about 3 month!!! you can take them from birth the only reason they advise to wait is cause babys body temp drops so fast as they cant control it till they are older! its great hun and brill for bonding lilly loves swimming an who o's you might learn a trick or 2 your self, you should look up at local swimming baths for mother and baby swim classes most do them! xxxx

Three months is good, gives me a little while to shift as much fat as poss so i dont empty the pool as i get in

We go to 'lessons' if you can call them that! It's 5 Mums and babies and the session if 30 mins. We do various things from blowing bubbles and splashing to 'swmming' along pushing a ball and dunking under the water. My baby love it! :D

i've been taking elliot to surestart swimming sessions, i had to wait on the list for a space though (theyre busy around here it seems) and hes 6 months old now so older then i originally wanted but hey.

keely.

we go to a baby swimming class every weeks, its absolutely great, so much fun for the LO's but it does encourage them to kick, lie on their backs and fronts keeping head out of water from a very young age as well as dunking them under, i think its good to start them young as it builds up their confidence at a young age.

yay for swimming :happydance: we having been taking maddi too our lessons since october, and we first took her swimming at 8 weeks after her first lot of jabs plus check up.

our lessons are great, they teach the babies to float on their backs, so if they get tired in the water when they're bigger, from swimming on your front, you can just turn over and float. they also teach them to hold on to the side, and swim back, as a safety thing, and we sing songs, play goes, use woggles to float around with, and lots of toys - balls, ducks, mirrors and watering cans! we also do submersion - taking them under the water, passing them, letting goes now (ekk!!) and just normal under the water. as she gets older and goes to the next class up i think we begin by bringing them in from the side - now we do that in the lesson.

i can't recommend it highly enough! and its really fun to do with your baby :D in fact, i loved swimming during pregnancy, and the teachers thought they could see that with maddi in the water! and plus the best thing is, maddi adores it and you can still see some of the womb reflexes in the water when you take them before six months! amazing!

Ive taken jacob since he was about 6 weeks :D he loves it we start actually swimming lessons in april But right now we go about 2-3times a week to the pool :) XxX
