Im a little late but thought i would update with my birth story.
Lucas James Findlay was born on July 9th at 11.03pm.
I was 7 days overdue and i went to see my midwife at 8.30am to get a sweep, when she examined me she said i was 4cm dilated and she could feel my waters and babys head, i was a little surprised at how dilated i was and just had a feeling he would be born that day.
When i got home i felt a little crampy and had a bath and done some lunges etc as i was determined that he was going to be born that day.
By around 11am i was having contractions around 5 minutes apart and increasing in intensity, i called my boyfriend to come home from work and his response ' since im going to be off for 2 weeks i need to get the last of my work done so others dont have to do it' Hello do you realise im in labour!!! he wasnt meaning to be nasty hes just very laid back.
By the time he got home it was about 1.30pm and my contractions were getting worse, at 3.30pm i went to the toilet and i gushed bright red blood so called the midwife and she said to go straight in.
I was put on a little ward with women who werent in labour and i couldnt sit down as it was so sore i was standing and panting so loud, there were only curtains between us and i knew everyone could hear me. A midwife popped her head round and was like oooo sounds like your in labour. She did a sweep and i was 7cm dilated!!!
By this point i was sore but not to bad and got some morphine ( wish i hadnt taken it so early) i was laughing and having a great time sending my friends videoclips etc ( how embarrasing!!!! i dont even remember doing this)
I got taken from this ward and taken to the labour ward, as id been bleeding i got a midwife to myself which was great she only ever left the room if she had to get things and was so attentive and helpful.
Suddenly the morphine started wearing off and i was in alot of pain, i was given gas and air and was bouncing hard on the ball - they were laughing at me saying it looked like i was doing a gym workout, anyway i was starting to not be able to concentrate and becoming crazy screaming my head off and making noises which my boyfriend describes as an elephant. I told the midwife i couldnt go on without something stronger so she checked to see how dilated i was and she said i was fully dilated and couldnt really have anything.
I was uncontrollable at this point kept trying to get up etc so she went and spoke to a doctor and i was given morphine again as it had been time.
Suddenly i really needed to push so i lay down finally ( i was to scared to go anywhere near the bed the whole of the labour for some reason but they coaxed me too) and i pushed and pushed, the midwife said it could take between 2-4 hours for the baby to be born but things quickly escalated and 16 minutes later baby Lucas was born.
The time it took was dangerous as id just had morphine and when he was born he didnt breath and was whisked straight away and i never even got to see him
i was so drugged that i was shouting at them getting really angry as i thought they were stealing my baby, they let my boyfriend go and take a picture of him in the resuscitation room to prove he was alive as i thought he had died
After reading my notes and speaking to the midwife the next day i found out he didnt breath for 15 minutes after birth and it was getting really dangerous.
He was born at 11.03pm and i never got to see him until 4am!!
After birth i had a 2nd degree tear which included muscle and i was examined by 3 people and then stitched up, ouchhh its only healed now almost 5 weeks later.
At 4am i went to the neonatal unit and got to meet my baby, he weighed 8 pounds 3oz and was about triple the size of any of the other babies in there. Because he had gotten some of the morphine he didnt feed or wake up for 24 hours and for the first few days after birth he didnt wake for feeds or ever cry.
All in all i had a good birth up until the very end, the feeling of thinking you are going to lose your baby is the worst thing in the world especially when noone will tell you what is going on!!
If i could do it again i would not have had the morphine at the end but obviously the midwife didnt know it would be so quick!
I recovered from this as soon as i seen him though and we have a great bond even though he wasnt given to me straight away.
Here are some newborn pictures and one from when he is a month old
