Hi ladies i had an emergency scan today as i had reduced movements at the weekend. The tech commented thats hes a big baby.

Head circumference is >97th centile
Abdomen is 92nd centile
His weight is 88th centile and hes 5lb1oz at 32 weeks

Ive also been noted to have 23cm of amniotic fluid (it was 15cm a few weeks ago). The hospital have said my consultant didnt need to see me today because he is not concerned but im very concerned about him being so big and ive just googled high amniotic fluid which has scared the loving daylights outta me but when i tell them how worried im just made to feel like im just being a worry wart and feel im being dismissed.

Anyone else carrying a big baby with high fluid? Seriously cant handle another 8 weeks of this stress :'(

Hi Nicksi, I had the exact same problem which worried me silly but I finally saw a fairly senior consultant who said that big babies wee more and drink more so that was the reason for the high fluid levels (mine were 29cm). I googled it too but you should also come across lots of info stating that having too little fluid is more worrying than too much fluid. My baby was born and weighed 8lb14 and absolutely perfect. Try not too panic too much, you'll be fine xx

Hi try not to worry my third baby was measuring big all the way along at 34 weeks he was measuring 6lb he was born at 38 weeks a healthy 10lb 8oz. I wasn't told if I had excess fluid but I do know when they went ( I had a c section) I remember them saying "whoa a lot of fluid too".

At 35 weeks my son was estimated to weight 7lbs 4oz and at 37w 4d they estimated him to weight 8lbs 10oz, he was born at 39w 1d weighing 9lb 6oz. So my ultrasounds were pretty accurate, but I know not all of them are. He also had a very large head circumference (15in) at birth. One Dr. he saw was concerned at first about his head size until she saw his dad (DH has a very large round head too ;)). I had a biophysical profile done around 33w (I had went in for preterm labor and his heartrate was dipping too much during monitoring), I think my AFI was 19 or 20, so not as high as yours but still a lot of fluid. My Dr. was never worried about his size or fluid level since he scored a 8/8 on the biophysical. My LO was breech so having a little extra fluid was good in my case. My Dr. said it gave him more room to try to flip. He never did flip and was born via c-section (I think he was just too big to turn at that point).

If everything else looks good, then I wouldn't worry about LO being large and having a little extra fluid.

Thank you all for your replies ladies. I saw my consultant again on Wednesday and told her how worried i am. She got the technician to come in and explain to us why they aren't concerned about the head size and said if anything was 'abnormal' in his head they would have seen it by now as I've had loads of scans. She said the fluid level is high end of normal but it could have been an incidental finding. She said they aren't concerned until it goes higher than that. Got another scan at 36 weeks and until then I guess I gotta relax coz no amount of worrying is gonna physically change anything. Thanks again, your relies really reassured me x
