Hi all, due my first baby in 5 days and found out today that baby is back to back or in the 'stargazer' position, midwife also said that babys head was firmly in my pelvis and she could no longer push his head from side to side? I'm really starting to panic about labour now and how difficult it's going to be if I can't get him to turn around, anyone got an experience with a stargazer baby? Any advice would be very much appreciated!!

Thanx xx

My mw made me roll from side to side when I was in labour(had been for 7 hours!!) to get my son to move from back to back it seemed to work!

They often make you lay on your left side when in labour to help turn baby, baby will naturally try to turn themselves with your contractions which can also give 'false' or what feels like 'irregular' contractions in between your usual ones... this doesnt always happen but it did for me. My last labour was back to back and I wont lie it was really uncomfortable for me, the pains started in my bump but seemed to go into my bum and lower back shooting into my thighs almost as they got worse...

Have you a birthing ball? They say rocking on all 4s over a birthing ball can help baby to turn round.

This baby is back to back as well, the midwife said it will be from the position im sittin gor laying in when I go to bed, she made me feel really lazy but I have an 11mth old toddler... you cant be Lazy with Mia around!!

Loads of babies turn around just before or just after labour begins so I wouldnt worry too much about it, fingers crossed it will all go smoothly for you :-) xx

Hey hun, I've had 2 back to back babies! My last birth was all natural and basically you'll find that you can NOT lie down... you have to be on all fours or leaning over something and you'll be ok :hugs: Even for the ride to the hospital I was on my knees facing the back of the seat lol. My baby turned about a second before he was born cheeky monkey. You'll be ok hun :hugs:

I don't get what this back to back position is? And why can't baby be born like that? X

back to back babys spine to your spine

bouncing on a birthing ball should help move bubba, get bouncing girl

Baby can be born like that, but labour can be longer and more painful as you give birth to the wider part of the head first. This baby is back to back, and refuses to shift, but I'm reassured that many will roll during labour.... it also means you'll feel the contractions in your back rather than round to the front as you would if baby is to one side xx

thanx so much everyone, I was really starting to panic earlier and reading all the comments has really calmed me down :D Unfortunately I don't have a birthing ball but I'm trying the all fours thing as often as I can, I also have SPD so being on all fours kills my pelvis but I'd rather try and turn baby than worry about my pelvis lol xxx

i got my ball in tesco costs a fiver........ and is so worth it..... suppose to sooth a new born as well if you hold them and bounce on it

aw excellent, think I'll send someone out to buy me one tomorrow :D xx

I had a back to back labour and it hurt but tbh labour hurts anyway  it just meant a lot of contractions were in my back x

thanx for reply, I've been having a few pains in my lower stomach today and a few mild contractions about 20mins apart but they don't seem to be coming to anything :( just keep getting stabbing pain in my stomach now lol Had a lot of back pain too but I guess thats just because of the way baby is positioned! Not feeling so anxious about labour now that I've read what everyone has said, so thank you so much everyone :D xxx
