Bacteria in powder?! Come on!!

Such a faff really, and my tin of formula (Aptamil AR for reflux) says add powder to cooled boiled water THEN warm to feeding temperature?????

How do you know the water is 70 degrees? as I've heard any hotter and it kills nutrients. I can't wait half an hour for kettle to boil so often put it in straight off the boil, maybe a touch of cooled boiled water to bring temp down a bit then add powder and top up with cool

A litre of boiling water takes an average 30 mins to cool to 70c so that is why they say leave to cool for 30 mins. The only way you can know the temp for sure is to check it with a food thermometer. Leaving it for 30 mins is an easy way to ensure water is about 70C. Specialist formulas have their own instructions, usually because the benefits of the formula outweigh the small risk of contamination. The 70c rule is for regular first/hungry baby and follow on milk in the UK.

The Tommee Tippee and various other websites advise AGAINST using hot water for mixing powder as it damages important vitamins and minerals! Surely 'taking the chance' on a remote chance of bacterial contamination is better than damaging important nutrients for baby??
