Hi everyone. I just wanted to express myself as I hope I will feel better getting it all out.
So my egg retrieval went well on 20 December 2010. They retrieved 25 eggs!
There was a lot of pain afterwards, but recovered in less than a week.
Well, the bad news is that on the day, my DH produced his semen and there was no sperm!
I could not believe this! They asked him to produce a second sample at the clinic which
had no sperm whatsoever! I was in shock (and pain after the retrieval).
They suggested they perform an extraction from his testicle (can't remember the name)
which he was awake for as he could not have anesthesia as he had eaten that morning.
As if the pain he had wasn't bad enough, they still found no sperm!
I could not believe this was happening to us! I kept asking myself why, why, why?
After the procedure our specialist sent us to have his hormones tested via a blood test.
His testosterone was normal but his FSH was low, 0.3 mIU/L. From 20 million sperm count in May to zero sperm in December was a shock. All we needed was one tiny sperm, but there
was nothing. Our specialist gave us injections for him which include ovidrel and menopur
which he must start taking on Monday. There is hope, but now it's a 3 month wait as sperm
takes 90 days to produce and mature. Apparently a low FSH can be fixed but a high FSH cannot. One good thing I guess. Has anyone experienced this before?
I'm hopeful but still so heartbroken! I just want our baby so badly!!!!!!!

Lots of prayers and hugs for you~ I am so sorry you're going through this!

Oh honey im so sorry to hear this :hugs:

Make sure that you both look after yourselves while you wait for the sperm to form and mature. You have been through alot to get to where you were and I can see from your post what a dissapointment it was.

I can only imagine what it was like as, and I know its not the same, our ivf cycle was nearly cancelled as they didnt think any of the 3 eggs I produced would fertilise. I was lucky that one did but it was touch and go. When we were waiting to hear if we could still go ahead I tried to prepare myself as we had done 5 weeks of drugs to get to that point and my only consellation if it was cancelled was that it just wasnt the right time. As it was, the one that fertilised was really poor quality and so had little hope but I realised that sometimes the universe has a strange way of holding us back until the timing is right. Though I think I REALLY want it to work now, there is obviously a bigger plan at work and I will just have to wait.

Take care and dont be too hard on yourselves, the time will be right soon!!

Thank you so much to everyone for your kind words and thoughts. xxx

Just wanted to wish you and your hubby well !! 25 eggs is fantastic though and as you said low FSH can be treated...good luck!!

Sorry to hear your bad news. :hugs: Fingers crossed for you for the future. xxx

So sorry Hun, :hugs: i just hope and pray it will get sorted soon.

I can relate to your pain a little but of course IUI is nothing compared to IVF. We were TTC for 16 Months, cutting a long story short almost 3 Weeks ago we were going to have our 1st IUI done and when my husband did his 1st ever semen sample it was zero and 1dead (didn't even think zero existed  ) he had to go to a urologist and last week did his 2nd sample which was 2 sperms but weak ones, dr has given my husband clomid to take for the next 6 weeks hopefully that will help the sperms and we can go on to ICSI

Hang in there Hun really will be fine maybe stress is effecting the results and hormones, thats what urologist told my husband, you know he has produced 20million in the past  I'm sure all will go fine. Your egg number is fantastic :happydance: and always remember it just takes 1 healthy sperm xx

Good luck and your in my prayers xx :hugs:

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Does the doctor know why this happened? If he's under alot of stress I think you guys should spend some quality alone time together and try to relax. of course its always easier said than done.

I am sending you lots of love. If you retrieved 25 eggs, which is pretty amazing, then I'm sure that when his sperm does produce again you guys will get your BFP.

ETA: Also wanted to say that hot tubs can kill sperm as well. I never knew this till a few months ago when I was researching TTC methods.

Thanx again for your replies. I just wish someone could explain how 20 million sperm in May 2010 to zero sperm in December 2010 could happen. It just is so strange don't you guys think?
It just vanished, not even one, not even a dead one?
This just can't be right! Does anybody know of this happening to anyone else before?

So sorry things didn't work out this time but never give up hope. I had IVF last year and I am now awaiting the birth of our baby girl (due Thursday) My husbands first sperm test came back at 4 million and after weekly accupuncture, stopping drinking, hot baths, wearing underwear and taking Zita West supplements his sperm count on the day of fertilization was 40 million plus. It was actually me that didn't produce a great deal of eggs when all along we were told the sperm count was the issue. Never give up hope :hugs:

Let the sperm making begin!
I'm just going to be positive, positive, positive!

It's hormone related....Extremely low FSH. So we start from scratch. Some sites say it takes 6 weeks for sperm to produce and be mature enough to fertilize an egg and others say 90 days (3 months). We will test in 5 weeks from now.Apparently low FSH in men is very rare, 1 % of men who have fertility issues I think I read. Hectic stuff!

:hugs:
Hugs dear, but I wonder why they retrieved eggs without doing at least 1 SA?
