Alot of the girls I know that have pcos have only gotten pregnant coming off bcp....I've done clomid, femera, metformin, fertilaid, fertile detox, fertile cm, opks, cbfm, temping, smep, soft cups, preseed, conceive plus, and iui with NO BFP! I think I've made the decision to go back on bcp next cycle. anyone else done this or :thumbup:thought of doing this?

Hi there - after a miscarriage last month, my Dr put me on BCP to "balance my PH" and when I get my period, we'll start TTC'ing again. I'm anticipating my period around May 24'ish. Dr said that the BCP will make femara work better for me. I have PCOS too.

I have PCOS and it was CAUSED by BCPs. Stay away from BCPs! Drs. don't like to explain how it works. Basically, it will stop your body from ovulating, which obviously is not what you want if you're trying to get pregnant and certainly not if you're trying to heal PCOS. It messes with your hormones and when you come off of it your PCOS could become aggravated and instead of ovulating you'll just get cysts all over your ovaries. BCPs are not healthy.

Try changing your diet. Cut out anything with soy products (this is hard b/c soy is in everything and in the doses it's found in our diets it's actually really really bad for us) and try eating a natural diet, especially organic or cage free chicken breast. Processed chicken has what's called xenoestrogens, which act like actually estrogen when it gets into your body and tricks your body into thinking you're pregnant when you're not, thus causing or aggravating PCOS.

Also, have you had your thyroid checked? What about blood sugar. You could be insulin resistant which is caused by and causes PCOS.

Hope this helps. I'm not a doctor but I've spoken with quite a few as well as nutritionists.

Thanks Opera. I have never been on BCP even in my younger years. This is actually the first time and I hate it! Before reading your post, I was just telling my husband that maybe I should stop taking them despite what the doctor advised me to do. But he reminded me that it's only for 21 days. I so can't wait for it to be over!!!

I'm pretty sure my PCOS was caused by BCP, I was only on them for 15 months but my cycles are only recently geting regular, due to starting Metformin in Jan (when I was diagnosed), and I stopped BCP over 2 years ago.
I did try going back on BCP for a month, last October, before I was diagnosed with PCOS, but I started spotting early (I'd never spotted on BCP before) so I stopped before I completed the cycle. And I didn't get pregnant.
I have heard that going off BCP increases fertility for that cycle, and my brother's fiance (who is 17 >.<) is living proof that it does happen, but I wouldn't try it again, not now that I know what it can do.

PCOS is a genetic disorder that some women are born with. I think doctors are using the term as a go to diagnosis. My friend was "diagnosed" with pcos because she was overweight and not getting pregnant but was never checked for the actual thing. I was diagnosed at 16 through tests and ultrasounds that confirmed my pcos. I do think that bcps can help some women and screw up others systems. I'm hoping they will work for me cause nothing else has yet.
