Hello and welcome to mine and Lily's birth story! She finally made it into the world by induction at 41+5. Here it is:

Day 1&2* [02/03/13]:

I went in to James Cook University Hospital on 2nd March 2013 at 6pm, I got into my room and comfortable. They put me on the monitor to check Lily and myself, my midwife was amazing. I was all fine to go and had my first Prostin tablet at 8pm. I started to contract around 4 hours ish later, these tightenings were picked up on the monitor and I wasn't given another Prostin because of it. I then started to feel them slow down, and actually managed to get a little rest, 4-6am. I woke up feeling slightly discouraged that they stopped all together. I informed my midwife of this and she monitored me at 7am, we decided that my tightenings had stopped and I could get another Prostin!

Day 2* [03/03/13]:

So after this Prostin my tightenings kicked it up a notch so I was super happy. I spent most of the past day and this day alone, but thankfully Liam's (my fiancé) Nan said she would mind our puppy dog <3. So Liam came from 3pm-9pm to visit me! I was tightening really well and painfully, much to Liam's dismay :haha:, he didn't like seeing me in pain, so he put me in the bath and washed my hair and put me on the birthing ball. He rubbed my back while I went through this. The thing that made this day pretty awful was I had a lovely midwife day one, and the morning of day two also, but the midwife I had day two had to go onto another high dependency case, so I got stuck with the devil midwife who was SO freakin' negative, and kept putting words into my mouth. She even did it to Liam at one point, she kept saying "Oh you're not too distressed, they must be ok" and then asked Liam how my tightenings were in every ten minutes and Liam said "Three in ten", and she replied "So, one to two in ten? That's not too bad", oh my goodness, I could of swung for her.
Anyways, my mum, dad and little sister, Ellie, also came to visit that night they seen my pain and discomfort, loads of back rubs for me! :haha:. So, my parents and sister left at 7pm and I was snuggling with Liam for comfort, and my NEW midwife came, devil midwife number two! They said they'd try and break my waters that night. She came in and said "I'm just doing something in theatre and I'll be back". She didn't come back until after 9pm at which time Liam had left, which made me sad. She came in and monitored me and said "These tightenings won't be doing anything, we won't even exam you and just leave you to sleep". Well, I was totally gutted, she'd just told a nearly two week overdue woman that this part had failied, I was super emotional by then, I'd been away from home and Liam and next door was a woman labouring, screaming so loud and it just wasn't needed. I was fuming, sad, depressed and I was SO ready to discharge myself. I rang Liam in tears saying I was done, I was coming home and I was a failure, I said my body had failed me, I couldn't even give birth to my daughter naturally, I had to have stupid tablets! He convinced me to stay and said he was really proud of me, he loved me and would be in at 10am tomorrow. So I put my phone down, getting bad pains and tried to sleep. I actually slept rather well that night, thank god. Tomorrow was full of surprises!

Day 3* [04/03/13]:

So, I woke up around 5:30am. I woke up in a better mood, still tightening, but I just thought, let's get this second round of Prostin going! My NEW midwife came in and introduced herself as Gill, this woman is my lucky charm, my angel and I will be forever grateful for her! She brought along her team leader as Gill was still training in different wards and this was her first time in high dependency. She stated she wanted to monitor me and Lily and then she will decide if to use Prostin again or not. Her collegue asked about my tightenings and said to Gill she could just do an internal first, so she did! I was SO glad she did, she looked at my notes and said she hoped she could see change. I wished too! My wish came true, she told me I was completely thinned and 2cm dilated and were going to break my waters! I couldn't believe it, I was on :cloud9:. I asked how long labour would take to begin and when I should ring my birthing partners, she just said "Now". I was rather shocked! I rang my mum and said "Where are you?" to which she replied "Dropping Ellie off then going to work, why?" I said "I suggest you turn back, they are breaking my waters", she was so shocked haha! I then rang Liam and said "Get ready, my mum is on her way to ours, they are breaking my waters", well he was beside himself, he couldn't get his words out, all I heard was "Yeah, won't be long". This was at 9am. The midwife then came back and broke my waters. We packed everything away to get ready to go to the delivery suite and I was leaking EVERYWHERE! :haha:. Liam and my mum got to me at 9:30am and laughed at me 'pee'ing myself' as they called it I nearly slipped over a few times in my own leaky waters, to my mums and Liam's amusement, thank god my mum had hold of me. We got to the delivery suite and set up.

Day 3* - The Birth [04/03/13]:

We went in to the suite and I went and had a bath. I cleaned myself quickly as I wanted to get on the Syntocinon drip asap, as did Gill. So I came out, popped a hospital gown on and was ready to rock and roll! I was put on the monitor to watch me and Lily, then they started to TRY and put in a Cannula, it took them three tries, my veins weren't playing ball, anyways, they got it and started the drip! I didn't feel any pain at first really, she was doubling it every half an hour, but Gill stopped at 8 as she didn't want my labour to go too quick. I actually went into established labour at 11:34am, I THINK I went onto Gas and Air then. I loved Gas and Air, it was amazing, made me giggle at first, which my Midwife, fiancé and mum found amusing.

Anyways, the contractions were pretty painful. I remember whenever I got up for a wee I was without Gas and Air it was excrutiating, I kept saying to my mum "PLEASE MAM, get my knickers down, I just want to pee!", poor mummy :haha:. I did ask for meptid at some point, it was late on around 7cm, at 3:30pm. I was contracting so bad by then and they were painful, the Gas and Air helped so so much, but only to a certain extent. Then around 15 minutes later I said to my mam "Mam, I really really need to push". My mum and fiancé both said together "You're not ready to push darling". The midwife was out of the room at the time and they look horrified and kept trying to stop me, I laid on my back, and opened my legs ready to push her out (sexy eh? :haha:). My midwife came back and Liam said "She said she needs to push", I turned to my midwife and said "Gill, I reaaaaaallllyyyy need to push, so bad, please", as she'd examined me 15 minutes earlier and I was 7cm she explained that I wasn't ready and to wait. I kept bugging her and just started pushing, she told me to stop and said she'd have a look, she couldn't believe that my cervix was all gone! So I started to push, what a weird sensation that is! I found pushing her head out very very exhausting, and by this point I was super tired having been in hospital from Saturday and hardly sleeping. I pushed for around 20 minutes, much of it was me telling Gill I'm really tired and I couldn't do it anymore, and Gill called in another midwife, they brought stir-ups in and put me in them, I wasn't sure why at first as I was quite dazed. I asked what was happening and they explained that this was to help me and baby, as I was exhausted and so was she. This sent me into a panic, and I just thought I need to get her out, so I ramped up my game and really really pushed. My mum kept looking inbetween my legs for Lily's head, and all of a sudden she was crowning! My mum said "Oh Bec, she's crowning, you're nearly there!" I couldn't believe it and said "Really?" to which Gill asked "Do you want a feel?" which I did, it was amazing! I gave some really good pushes and her head was out, I actually didn't notice I was pushing so much, all I heard was everyone shout "Rebecca! Stop! Pant, pant, pant" :haha:. So they obviously sorted her head out with me saying "Oh my god, is her head really out, mam?" Then they asked me to give her one BIG push and she was out! They cleaned her up and put her on my chest.
I couldn't believe it, I kept saying to Liam and my mum "Oh my god, she's here, she's here, I have my baby".My mum gave me a kiss and said "I'm so proud of you, she's beautiful". Liam kissed me and said "Thank you", that was all I needed.

It is the most magical moment of a woman's life, having your baby placed on you, the baby you've carried inside of you for months and months. I couldn't believe she was mine and that she was out at last, after going twelve days over I was so ready for her. I was so exhausted but when she came out I was wide awake, I loved her instantly and I will for the rest of my life. I will protect her and comfort her whenever she needs me to. I'll give her whatever I can, when I can and how I can. My life is complete, I have her and Liam, my little family. I'm the happiest woman alive.
