been suffering and nearly made homeless for nothing!will anything get back paid

hiya!
for over a year my partners been working 16 hours as these are the only hours available.
every week we get 140 pounds this is working tax child tax and child benefit after paying some utility bills and rent we are left with 20 pounds for a weekly shop (not good when your pregnant have a little boy to feed plus me and my partner) and my partners 340 pounds wage a month went on big bills like car insurence ect.
So we went to a few money places like citizens advice they told us oh no your not entitled to anything so basically tough!
we struggled to pay rent and were nearly evicted (but its ok we wont be weve got it sorted) so all this has put a huge strain on me throughout this pregnancy.
when i was messing about on the computer the other night i thought stuff it im gunna try and claim income supprt, so i filled the form online and they rang me the next day.
turns out i was entitled to icome support since i fell pregnant (im 30 weeks this week) my partner is entitled to a bit of money coz he only works 16 hours and we are entitled to housing benefit! so for a full year we have been struggling ive been depressed for over a year coz of bills and money all because people told us we werent entitled to anything!

what i would like to know is i have to go into job centre in the morning to sign the forms dose anyone know how far bk theyll back date it?
i know they wont do the full year coz that would mean giving us like 5 thousand pounds (i know they arent that generous) but i would like to know if they will back date any so i can pay debts of that was caused by all this???!!
and also when youve signed the forms how long after will i get any money?

I telephone about Council Tax/Housing benefit in January and was told I couldn't apply. It turned out in April that I could apply and they said they'd backdate it because they'd misinformed me - However, I then got a pay rise and earn too much lol...

Often they won't backdate unless it's extenuating circumstances, but try, you've nothing to lose. Say that you were told you weren't entitled etc, you might not get anywhere, but no harm in trying!

i doubt any will be backdated we had to argue to get 4 days back dated lol since they do it from the monday you have your form in and we handing it in after monday that was housing though
