Well my Dr. decided to put me out of my misery, so to speak and begin an induction at 38 weeks due to nagging complications (hydronephrosis and bad itching). I'm worried, I have heard so many bad experiences and am terrified of pitocin....how do you feel while on it? does it make you sick? I'm so nervous...

Sorry I can't be of any help really as this is my 1st baby so I don't know what to expect. However, I was offered to be induced at 37 and a half weeks due to my bad SPD - but since researching being induced before your due date and the risks I have told them I will take my chances of her comming naturally and put up with the pain :-( .

My friend was induced at 39 weeks and said the drip doesnt make you feel sick but it does make the contractions worse than if you were in natural labour, as you don't get a break between contractions while being induced xx

Try not to worry, im sure as its more controlled you could have an epidural if the pain was much more intense. I'm hoping they will do my c-section two weeks early as i have Polyhydramnios, i am very small and am in so much discomfort. Good luck whatever you do and remember the end result ;) xxxxxxxxx

I was induced at 38 weeks with my first, and I'm being induced at 38 with this one as well(though I'm trying to go on my own the week before), and I didn't feel any ill effects from the pitocin.

The only thing was that I couldn't eat, but that's for anybody in labor. They did give me italian ice and they'll give you ice chips and water.

I was induced with both mine at 38 weeks. The contractions were pretty intense and I had an epidural at 7cm with my first and at 4cm with my second. Just go in there being open to pain killing options - some women manage with just gas and air. Pitocin certainly never made me feel ill - it just made the contractions stronger and closer together.

Good luck.

I've had pitocin. I'll be honest I don't know what natural contractions feel like, I know that the contractions I felt on pitocin were definitely no walk in the park. But after watching as many natural births as I have on tv shows those woman are wailing sometimes, and yes my contractions hurt but not once ever did i scream or wail. I'm saying this only because i think that they probably both hurt. I did get an epidural and it was fantastic!! I was able to push two hours after that and had my baby in 15 minutes!! :)

hey i dont have any experience but i too a being induced at 38 weeks... on the 27th June so in 11 days... this is because i have a blood clotting disorder

Thanks ladies for your wonderful responses...it really does make me feel better knowing that others have been induced at 38 weeks and that it turned out well! Good luck to those being induced soon! all the best xoxo

I was induced with my last and they slowly gave me more every few hours so it wasnt that bad. I have gone both ways and it is true that with being induced the contractions are stronger and a little more painful, but after i got the epidural it wasnt so bad.

Hey hun,

I was induced at 37 weeks with first (was meant to be 38 wks but my waters broke early!). It was absolutely fine - honestly wasn't that bad - they do say contractions come on strong and fast but it depends on the person for me it was pretty gradual and I had an epidural after 8 hrs and then didnt feel a thing so Im looking foward to being induced again at 38 wks this time - just remeber people always post horror stories rather than the good experiences - im sure it will all go well :flower:

I was induced at 39 weeks and everything went fine. They upped my pitocin every 30 minutes and my contraction got more painful, but not unbearable. I moved my positions every 30 minutes or so, and standing gym things going. I went from 3 dilated to 10 in an 1 hour 1/2, and pushed for like 20 minutes. I didn't take any pain medication. I had 2 episodes where I was feeling nausea's and nothing really came up but that can happen in natural labor as well.

I would get induced again if I needed too.

im being induced at 38+3 and im literally crapping myself as im a first time mum but either way labour is called labour for a reason isnt it? just hope it aint as bad as some people make it out

9 days til i get induced at 38 weeks

Great to know that not all indictions end in disaster! thanks for the reassurance, I'm nervous but soooo relieved that I won't be pregnant anymore! can't imagine going to 42 weeks, that is absurd if you ask me!

i am on my 3rd pregnacny and i have had 1 natural labour and 1 induced labour due to pbc at 38+3 days on wed, it was fairly quick and easy with my last induction but i was only 1 day early and im hoping it will be the same again with this one but im 11 days early for this inducment, im worried that its going to take ages. i had no worries with pains or anythign as ive had both labours naturally and hoping i can do it again

I had to be induced with my first baby. The Pitocin never made me sick or anything. It just made me highly uncomfortable because of the fact of the contractions I was getting from it. They were definitely painful. I dunno how the natural contractions feel as they get closer together, but with this pregnancy the natural contractions that I've been having have been less painful than the ones I had with Pitocin. I'd definitely have an induction again if it was absolutely and completely necessary. Try not to worry though hun. It'll get better with pain medicine if you decide to get anything. It'll be all over before you know it! Good luck honey!!
