I am about 5 weeks along now and am becoming really concerned about a certain issue...being pregnant with degenerative discs in my lower back. I am afraid that the pregnancy will make me bed-ridden or worse because of the pressure it'll put on my back...and i'm also worried about how i am going to be able to care for my new baby as he or she grows bigger and is harder on my back! has anyone else had any experiences like this, or does anyone have any advice...? (i am also going to talk to my doctor about this of course).

hey chick,

I have scholiosis of the spine. I had major surgery 10 years ago to try straighten it with titanium clamps.

Doctors throughout my life have told me it's fine to get pregnant but if and when the time came I would need alot of physiotherapy and a definite Caesarean. I mentioned to my doctor last week and she's also going to get me down for acupuncture further into the pregnancy.

As you say, a talk with your doctor about everything regarding your back could help give you some preventative options. Perhaps they can suggest several things to help ease you through the pregnancy.

:hugs:

I've always thought the same thing... I have messed up discs in my back due to a car accident =/

I had two vertaebras fused and the disc in between was removed as it had slipped. I want to swim but worried about the chlorine in swimming pools, i'd regularly swim in the sea, but is it safe to at the swimming baths i wonder.

I have wondered about this..... Since having my last child I had a car accident breaking my pelvis in 3 places, very unsure of what this pregnancy has in store for me and I am concerned about having to have a c section. Let us know what your Dr says.....

I have rib problems and im nervous that the baby will hurt my ribs once it gets bigger.

I have constant back pain. I've suffered with chronic pain for almost 8yrs.

I have DDD and also broken my hip and fractor my pelvis along with my tailbone. Im worried that the extra weight is going to affect my pain. I currently see a pain management specialist and he wants to wean me off all meds. Which is great and Im fine with.

I was told by my fertility specialist that it doesnt cause birth defects but baby could be born addicted and a detox plan would need to be done in the last tri so baby wasnt born addicted.

Im worried on how will I manage my pain and will me being in constant pain effect the well being of the baby? When do the pro's and con's come into play? Im affraid the dr isnt going to take my well-being into play at all.

I feel very torn...on whats best for me and the baby.

i have scholiosis of the spine and severe hip dysplasia you learn to cope in differant ways and dont get a baby carrier its a defo no get a good strong pram that you can lean on and its really not till the last 10 weeks it gets hard but you will be so happy its worth the pain ! and im on pain meds as i cant function without but baby will be fine as the codiene doesnt cause abnormalitys they do get addicted but with breastfeeding and then weaning they are natually weaned off slowly all my babies have had no affects at all good luck and it will be fine ps im on baby 5 !
