I was wondering what single parents here got as far as benefits go? At the moment I have no job and get the mat allowance, but wondered if I could financially go it alone. What might I be entiled to?

I get housing benefit £496pcm
Child tax credit, Child Benefit & Income support which equals £144 a week.

I get £400 per month housing benefit
My coucil tax is paid in full.
£20.00/ week child benefit
£128.00/week child tax (bearing in mind this more as my daughter is severly disabled)
£50.00/week carers allowance
£37.00/week income support

Also make sure you apply for milk vouchers (even now whilst you are on MA as you are entitled to them). This is £3.00 per week while pregnant, £6.00 for 1st year, and £3.00 per week until child is 5.

Then Matilda gets £67.00 per week DLA.
Also make sure you apply for your Maternity Grant £500.00 ( I was on MA too and you cant claim it until baby is born and you are on tax credits) but you have until baby is 3 months old.

Therefore I am getting about £230 per week plus housing benefit and milk vouchers.

its all so confusing!

i dont get the higher than family rate of child tax credits, i am on maternity allowance but was told not eligible for the grant

also told I cant get milk vouchers?

I work part-time and get £240 odds tax credit, £120 of which goes to child care, and £18.00 a week child benefit. But I live with my mum still, so i'm sure about housing benefit etc..

Hey.

You will get:

£60 + a few pennies Income support
£20.00 Child Benefit
£50ish Child tax credits

So about £140 per week give or take.

Plus then Council tax Benfit & housing benefit or LHA

I get:

£20.00 CB
£49.98 CTC
£53.77 IS (I'm paying off a JC loan)
£15.55 CTB
£112.00 HB

and every 4 weeks i get £12 in vouchers for milk & veg

Also worth bearing in mind that the IS & CTC will go up again in April by about 80p each! woop woop! and you can also claim £20 a week in Child Support before it affects your benefits.
