Hope someone can help. Iv'e just left my marriage with my 9 month old son. My husband was very controlling and abusive. Every thing he spent on me and my child he constantly reminded me of. I don't want his money as every penny he sends our way will only come back and slap me in the face.

Am i still entitled to benefits in the UK if i do not initiate CSA payments? Im struggling a little and relying on my wonderful family at the moment but dont want to use this as a permenant financial crutch until i go back to work next year.

If so what benefits given i'm living with my parents at the moment. Thank you . xx

do you have a job and recieve maternity pay?
if not you should be eligable for income support, child tax credits and child benefit plus housing benefit and council tax benefit should you be living on your own,
all you need to do when they ask do you want any help from csa is say you have your own agreement already xx

full IS,CTC AND CB comes to around 140 a week hope that helps you xxx

Your are still entitled to help regardless!
If you work you can apply for child tax credits, working tax credits, and added childcare element! As well as your child benefit which is standard!
You can get help if you dont work with income support child tax credits and your child benefit!
I work so I am not sure if there is anything else you can get if you dont work!

Good luck

Theres new rules now that even if you do initiate CSA payments you would still be entitled to the same amount of benefits if you didn't go through CSA.

Like the others have said, you'd be entitled to IS, CB, CTC, Housing benefit and council tax benefit. I think you can get healthy start vouchers aswell, for money off milk and fruit and veg.

:hugs:

Thank you so much. This has cheered me up. spent alot of the day crying about my finacial situation.

Im back at my parents at the moment- for at least 6 months. Theyve been wonderful.

Sorry to be pathetic but how do i go about obtaining these benefits? there are so many websites its seems so confusing

Your not being pathetic! :hugs:

If I remember properly, income support was done through jobcenter, you ring them and they will go through the application over the phone then get an appointment to go to a meeting to confirm everything you said on the phone.

To get child tax credits you have to ring them and they will send you a claim pack

I'm not sure if you would get any housing benefit if your living at your parents.

I know you say you've been going through lots of websites, but this one should have all the info you need Direct Gov

Hope this helped xx

Your not pathetic hun! Its unfair that its left all to us to do! Sometimes I get so angry at my ex for having 'a life' but then I think, He is missing out on Chloe and Jaycee! So I think it makes up for it lol

thank you so so much. have applied for income support and child tax credits. hope to hear something soon. thank you

They can threaten to stop your money if u dont pursue the csa but tell them your scared of him and he was violent they wont question it and wont pursue it x

I'm on benefits and don't get a single penny of child support from my ex (not that i chose this however) and as far as i'm aware you can say you don't want them to go after cs for x reason.
you are entitled to the money and as pp's have said can claim income support and child tax credits for you and your lo.

i dont think i'll be entitled to income support. before i got pregnant i had a high salary working full time and my own property which is still rented out. the income from that property is around £400 per month and even though it goes straight into paying my mortgage repayments it counds as income so the advisor said she doesnt think i'll be entitled but will pursue for me anyway.

will keep trying and hoping

Not true at all. You do not need to pursue money from the father. You do not need to go via CSA. No one can make anyone do that. I have never been asked about money from the father as I do not want money from him. Furthermore benefits are not affected by CSA or maintenance anymore so you do not need to declare it if you do it get it.
