Hi guys,

What are the benefits of charting? Is it simply the reassurance of knowing you've ovulated?

List the benefits please :flower:

It has the same benefit as using OPKs, you get a better idea of the timeframe when you are ovulating so that you can make sure you are trying on the correct days. A lot of period tracking apps like Glow and Ovia let you input your BBT and then give a percentage rating of how likely you are to conceive on that day.

When you say charting do you mean temping? I chart my cervical mucus and opk test results so I can predict my fertile window (best time to bd) and ovulation date better. By adding in temping you can confirm you've ovulated based on the rise in temperature. For me that was really the only benefit of temping, since it's the only way to confirm ovulation besides a progesterone test or ultrasound. Tracking all the other stuff (cervical mucus, position, opk) is actually more important to determine when to bd to conceive!

There are lots of benefits.

Detecting ovulation without needing to see a doctor.
Having a good record of your previous cycles including CD ovulation, length of AF, length of LP.
An increase in understanding of how your body and cycles work.
Detecting other health issues like thyroid problems.
Detecting early pregnancy signs
Being able to compare your cycle to your own previous cycles and others who are TTC under similar circumstances.
An element of 'control' and knowledge about what's happening to your body

Some women also use it as a form of birth control to avoid sex during a time they are fertile.

Taking Charge Of Your Fertility is a really great book and Fertility Friend app has lots of info.
