Hi

My baby is due in July and I was wondering what benefits may I be entitled to once baby is here, as I have tried these online calculators and it asks for my wage for 2013/2014 who's was £17,000 and OH was £20000 but once I go on maternity leave my wage will drop completely and when I do return to work I want to return part time so my wage will still be less but I can't seem to find what I will be entitled to where can I find out this info? I like to be prepared and know financially how we will be once baby is here. Thanks xx

On that income you're not going to be entitled to much. Apply for tax credits although I think you may be over the threshold, they go from the last year's wage but I think you can ask them to go from the current year, so predict your income while on maternity leave (maternity pay counts as it is taxable, but discount the first £100 a week).

You will get child benefit about £20 a week.

I will be surprised if you will be entitled to anything more than that as your income is fine?

Edited to add: even if you go part time your income is still good, but you should be entitled to child care tax credits if you pay for childcare when you go back. I think the threshold for normal tax credits is £26,000 so even part time you're likely to be over that, but the threshold for childcare is higher.

My wage sounds good but its shift work so depending on what I'm doing and the hours I'm working I get paid anything from £6.80 - £9.70 and hour but when on holiday I only get £245 a week when usually I get £255-£285 dep what department and what hours Iv worked, for the first 6 weeks of maternity I will get 90% pay of the £245 so will be around £220 a week and then 33 weeks of maternity pay at £138 So we will down by around £110-145 a week and my wage next April will be alot less than the 17000 Iv got for 2013-2014 as this 17000 also includes all the over time I have done but on maternity I will get under £10000 for the year.

Yeah but your OH's wage is ok hun so I don't think you will get things like housing benefit etc. But you should get tax credits, but they go from the last year so you will tell them what you got last year, but explain you will be on a lower income this year and give them a projection of what you think you will warn 2014-15 (but over estimate in case).

My partner was on an income of £18k a year and I was on £7k and we weren't entitled t I anything minus the childcare element of working tax credit. My partner has now had to find a new job and his income has dropped to around £9-£10k a year and we are now only just entitled to housing benefit and some child tax credits.

He was made redundant from his last job, so he didn't quit :-( x
