What sort of wraps do you find work best for newborns? I'm expecting this baby will be 8 lbs+, so I'd like some that aren't too tiny that we'll get a bit of wear out of.

Also, are there any I should steer clear of?

Just trying to perfect my stash now!

We don't use much in the way of wraps as Iona uses wool 90% of the time (as did Findlay) but Rumparooz one size wraps are good as they have poppers on them to adjust the rise so the wrap grows with the baby and they also do a newborn size that also has rise poppers so you can get a good fit in this first few months.

Weenotions wraps are fab too

I liked Motherease Rikki and Thirsties Duo for Ro as a newborn. We used both over size 1 Bamboozle Stretchies.

I'm a big fan of Tweedle Bugs. We started with smalls but I think the newborn ones would be great too. We've had mediums and larges too now and I love them - cheap, do the job, nice colours, good fit over every nappy we've tried and a nice double gusset.

I also had small Bummis Super Brites and they were great too, just not as cheap. I didn't like the Whisper wraps as much. S1 Thirsties were good but didn't last as long as the weight range would suggest.

I use the Thirsties duo wrap and rumparoos. I prefer the rumparoos because it's snaps and not velcro - the velcro in the thirsties is pretty worn out on ours, but they've been used for around 18 months now. I also like wool soakers! xx

Excellent! Thank you ladies. Lots of names to research (and hopefully get preloved!)

We used Motherease Rikkis - Ollie is just outgrowing the small size ones now (he's a chunk).

I've had Motherease Airflows in a bigger size. Is there much difference between them and Rikkis?

Also, Just realised that Flips say they'll go from 8lbs. I'm not convinced they'll contain newborn poo blowouts though. Has anyone tried?

We've only got one flip with both a stay dry and organic insert. So far we have had no leaks - poo or otherwise - although admittedly it doesn't get used as often as other nappies. I hope to rectify this during RNW.

I'm watching this thread closely because I have the same question!

I've got motherease airflows to use over flat terries (50cm size) when my baby arrives but now I'm thinking I should have got Rikkis. I only got 3 wraps in small size so maybe I'll have a look out for some rikkis on ebay to add to them.

Rikkis are good, but the xsmall is miniscule. We only used them for a month with our 8lb 8oz fatboy. The small are a bit baggy, but they work and they really last. We didn't use any of the airflow for a couple of months. My favourite newborn wraps for terries are the imse vimse newborn size. Soft, very containing and really well fitting.

I've got a few Thirstie's Duo wraps, and they fit a 6lb 9oz super skinny girl quite well. They have also done a good job containing poosplosions and lots of pee. :) I like them.

I've used Flips with my son since birth (well, once he'd passed the meconium-- some things are just best thrown away) He was 8lb. 1 oz, but long, not a chubster. I used them with the medium-small indian prefolds when he was tiny and use either those or the organic inserts now. I can't say that we've never had poo leak, but we haven't had any straight up breaches of containment.
