When I was pregnant with my first daughter I got horrific SPD. My midwife said that I needed to keep my hips moving etc. I struggled to carry the weight of the baby and ended up crippled every time I tried to walk. I found the perfect cure though! a week or so before it got reaaaally bad my OH had invested in the FULL Rock Band kit. Drums, guitar, everything......playing the drums helped no end.........also built up my arms a little. It eased the SPD pains because I was constantly moving yet I wasn't carrying the weight of my daughter.
I've got SPD this time and started to play the drums again. Told my midwife and she thought it was brilliant. Only problem is, unless you're a gamer like me and my OH it's not worth getting. Trying something that'll keep your legs moving without carrying the weight of the baby works wonders.

I have SPD but am not sure how playing the drums could help my pelvis... do you use your legs at all? I am wondering if I so on the sofa and flail my arms about if that will help! :haha:

that is brilliant because when you play the drums you move your legs with the bass pedal and you can do it sitting on your bum... great :)

I don't mean to gatecrash but I have a question. I'm not sure if I have SPD, but I suspect that I do...can you tell me some of your symptoms? I find it very painful to walk and bend down sometimes...and simple things that involve moving my hips/pelvis...like changing positions in bed are very uncomfortable and even painful sometimes. I feel like my pelvis is separated (if that makes any sense) and sometimes when I walk I get a popping or cracking feeling in my pelvis...does this sound like any of your symptoms?

That sounds like it. If it feel like you've pulled muscles all around the bottom of bump and it goes down your legs, around your crotch etc then it sounds like you defo have it. Ask your doc they'll be able to diagnose you with it.
Using a bass pedal gets your legs moving but you do need to alternate which leg you use. By sitting down, your not carrying the weight of the baby but your keeping your legs moving so when you do need to be up and about doing something it hurts less. It won't cure it fully but it helps.........well, it helped me......plus its fun :D

Even sitting down and just bouncing your legs help. Just try doing it 1 leg at a time so your other leg gives a bit of support. I suggested the drums because it's also a boredom buster and I found it fun lol.

Yep, some days I feel like I've pulled some muscles. Like earlier, it felt like I had a band of muscles around my pelvis and hips (imagine if you wrapped a bandage around your hips) and they were soo sore. I was nearly in tears.

I know you're not a doctor or anything but...do you think pedaling on a stationary bike (with little or no resistance) would have the same effect? I'm definitely going to ask my doc about this, though. Thanks.

Purplekisses - sounds like SPD for me. If I am right, pedallubg any sort of bike is a BAD idea. I have been told not to ride a bike, swim breaststroke, rode my horse, run, twist and bend at the same time etc. etc. I would go to the doc and ask to be referred for physio.

I had horrendous SPD with my first DD too and it has started again in this pregnancy. I was also advised not to do anything where you need to open your legs (!!), even just slightly, like riding a bike, breaststroke swimming, riding horse etc. I was even told to keep my legs closed and knees together when I turned over in bed and got out of the car as it could have cracked my pelvis!!

Hope this helps :)

XxX:kiss:

I think docs and midwives give different advice for SPD. Mine told me to keep my hips and legs moving to help keep the ligaments loose and stop them becoming tense etc.
