BF baby wont take breast but will take bottle!

In the last few days Callum has been very difficult when feeding, he just wont take the breast, hes just screaming and getting so mad whenever i try! he's acting very hungry though and i know he is! Last night i was getting so wound up i gave in and gave him a bottle (formula)..he guzzled it down like he was starving!! When i try him on the breast he sucks a couple of times to start with and then the tantrum begins!! I've tried everything i can think of, burping him, changing the breast, changing his nappy, calming him down and trying again! I've even had him half alseep and tried and it ended up in a huge fit!! I dont want him to be hungry and the only way he will eat is from a bottle and i dont want him to start getting used to a bottle either! I love BF'ing! I dont want to stop!!

I'm sorry, I don't know what to suggest I'm afraid. The bottle is much easier for them, so is the lazy option. Do you have a lactation councellor you could contact?

I think you would likely have to stop givig bottles, as kat said, its easier so he may prefer bottles... so you wont be able to give him that option if you want to bf,.

I to have had this problem. my little girl was 3pounds 4 1/2oz an perfect at birth she needed no help whatso ever but because she was so small they wanted to monitor closely HOW MUCH she was eating. they put her on formula to measure it.well when i pumped id get nothing but drops which surely wasnt going to be measurable and now..shes 5pounds 4oz and on pumped milk. shes still getting the benefit but..she too is now allowed to nurse as shes taking 4oz an is almost 6wks wednesday...but now shes not interested in the breast and if shed been able to from the beginnin maybe id not be so impatient and feel so bad towards myself that now she isnt interested my milk supply dropped to almost 2 oz total per pumping and i was put on reglan because blessed thistle seed or mothers milk wasnt work and now im getting about 5 oz per pumping but still im gonna continue to try to nurse...she doesnt seem interested but with other kids here and everything chaotic at times maybe thas why they are all back in school now...dont give up and if u cant BF atleast PUMP ... she will get the benefits from the milk and hopefully a lactation consult..from ur hospital will be able to help u as well... good luck and dont give up...

i had exact same problem with my LO at the same age.
I gave in and gave him a bottle but he soon got back on the boob again.
Think he got so hungry he just wanted milk ASAP.
Dont worry it will get back to normal.
My LO now swaps between boob and bottle with no probs at all.

same problem here amelia gets very stressy at the boob shes got lazy so we now express all feeds with the ocasionally BF but i would still have to top her up as she never takes enough
