Hi
So I've been bfing for 5 mnths and DS is doing well he and gaining weight well. BFing is getting more and more difficult as DS wriggles about and latches on and off which is making me sore and he always wants to put his hands in his mouth or eyes and its such a battle. Is this normal??
Im worried he isn't eating enough as he doesn't seem to nurse for very long???

Its normal at this age as they do tend to get distracted easily, I found at that age the best quality feeds were late in the evening and the 1-2 during the night, so if you're worried you could offer a dream feed or two then, thankfully after a while LO did get less distracted by things and now unless there is really loud chatter in the background or outside he doesn't get distracted any longer xx

My lo is 5 months and he is exactly the same. If I take a bite of food or a drink he comes off and stares if I speak or someone walks past or comes into the room he stops. If he is not that hungry or when flow slows he comes on and off smiling at me and giving me his hand to kiss in a sort of game. It is quite cute but can be frustrating when we are in a rush or your trying to be discrete. . Like the above post says he seems to feed much better in the night when it is quite.

That is normal. they are so aware of their surroundings at this point, and so curious. I found going in my son's room and nursing in the glider, with no tv, or any kind of distractions worked best for us at this stage. Maybe try a nursing necklace.

What's a nursing necklace?

I.do a dream feed at 11pm and it doesn't help him to sleep any longer so think he is waking through habit but is rather feed him so he feels happy to go back to sleep. I've just been spoilt really as he used to go 7-11pm then dream feed then sleep through till 7am so I was worried that he may not be getting enough during the day

I didn't mean a dream feed to make him sleep longer but some night time feeds to get milk into him during the night at least, this is what we did xx

He gets one dream feed at 11 pm and currently he is waking in the early hours so o kind of fee feed him then as he is usually half asleep. Thanks for your help :dohh:

Mine is the same - the past few weeks have been really hard as she gets distracted by everything and likes to play with my skin and clothes while feeding. If we're at home I pretty much always feed her upstairs where it's quiet. Fed her in a coffee shop today and she kept popping off to grin at people walking past. So not discreet :dohh:
