I was told that my son will probably be a big baby and I was wondering if birth hurts more when the baby is 9+lbs

I think its impossible to say- every labour and birth is different, so even a mother who's had a big baby and a small baby won't be able to say for sure that having a big baby was easier or harder. But there is a theory that bigger babies are easier to birth because gravity helps them down- like squeezing toothpaste out of a tube, it's easier when its full. Try not to worry, having a big baby doesn't automatically mean it will hurt more :)

Haven't experienced a 'small' baby, but my births were painful but I managed on G&A both times. Take from that what you will.

Don't be daunted by it. Babies come in all shapes and sizes and it's VERY difficult to accurately predict the size of a baby before it's born. Just go with it, listen to your body, and take advice when you need it.

Good luck x

I had a 9lb 11oz baby last time and had a 27 hour labour. The first contraction was as painful as the last and they were 5 mins apart from the very start. I'm unsure if that has anything to do with his size but the pushing part only took 28 minutes! That could be because I was fed up by then and just wanted to hold my baby or it could be because he came down the birth canal easier :) I birthed on my back too, which is supposed to be harder but was incredibly easy :)

I am expecting a larger than average but much smaller baby this time so when I have him I can let you know if it was as painful or not!! :)

I was told having a big baby doesn't usually affect delivery. The head is what matters. My sons head was off the charts in size, big heads run in my family. And I had no problems delivering him, naturally with no drugs. I am told this baby now is "big" too. I haven't given it a second thought. I wouldn't worry about it:)

They say you will only make a baby as big as you can deliver ?!? not sure if i believe it but anyway .... I had a 9lb 3oz baby had a tear (as in needing stitches ) but managed ok!

Nope big babies don't hurt more! I didn't feel a ring of fire, just a warm sensation and he was 9 pound 7. The contractions hurt but pushing didn't hurt!

my LO was 10 lb 7 ounces and yes the contractions hurt (but i imagine they hurt regardless of size) the pushing felt a huge relief. I did not feel him come out as he was stuck and i needed a spinal because they thought he would be a c-section, but he came naturally in the end with forceps. But i got to 10cm with only gas and air and as i say pushing was an absolute relief compared to contractions.

My LO was 9lbs 14 and I needed an epi and it was great. First contractions very painful but was bliss as soon as I had epi and pushed him out in under 10 mins. Please don't worry I was really panicked after midwife told me big baby but I enjoyed my labour and can't wait to do it all again.

I've had three bigguns, but I've also had three epidurals lol. So I couldn't say really.

I had a 9lb 5oz baby but had an epidural altho it wore off, it hurt like hell to push him out but he is my only baby so I don't no if that was his size, its all worth it in the end tho x

My babies were 9lb 3oz and 8lb 7oz - both very wide babies that got stuck with dystocia. I found the actual crowning/delivery to feel very relieving. Like when a big poo finally pops out (sorry!). It was good. The 1st was an epidural so I don't know, but the 2nd was 100% natural and felt great.

This was the same for me! I've described it in exactly the same terms before. That 'relief' is like a rush and feels amazing! lol

I thought the pushing bit was easy least compared to the contractions! And it didn't hurt much either. Contractions were more intense for me. X

I have had an 8lb12,8lb10 and then a 10lb5er!

Apart from the 10lber getting stuck at the shoulders, all 3 labours hurt the same, and his was the quickest!

I had an 8 pound 16 ounce bubba and yep it hurt like hell......
