Hello My lovely little man Patrick Joseph was born on 19th April. I had an elective c-section because I had such a horrible labour with my first born which lasted 88 hours, ended in an emergency c-section and my son being taken to neonatal for a week. It made it very difficult to bond with him and I suffered from awful baby blues.
Anyhow this time round I had an all round positive experience. We went into hospital at 7 a.m. expecting that we might have to hang about (brought a whopping bit Jilly Cooper to keep me going) only to find we were first on the list. So up we went to theatre. Being the first operation of the day the theatre staff were all very jolly and a lot of bantering was going on which made for a nice atmosphere. The spinal was actually rather enjoyable (not as good as gas and air which I got I retain a nostalgia for from my first birth) but I felt as if my bum and legs were floating in the air - a pleasant sensation.
It took ten minutes for my son to born when he was shown to me and then taken off for checks - but within my vision the whole time. Then given to my husband who put him beside me after that whilst they sewed me up.
Then we went off to recovery room where I spent an hour doing skin to skin contact with my LO before we went to the ward at 1.30 p.m. and were able to ring people to tell them the good news.
The midwives on the ward were brilliant and so helpful, encouraging us to use the buzzer and ask for help on anything.
Recovery wise I'm still a little sore but I haven't experienced some of the symptons I had last time (e.g. severe anaemia and very bad constipation). So all in all I feel very lucky, very happy and very pleased with my birth.
