Hi ladies,
my little princess Eden Iris Ross finally arrived on 22nd May 2013 at 19.49pm weighing 7lb 11.5oz.
Here is my birth story...
I was due on Saturday 18th May 2013. It came and went with no sign of little Eden arriving.
She is my second daughter so I assumed I would go early or on time but she had other ideas.
I had a sweep on Monday 13th and was 50% effaced and 2-3cm already and very favourable. She said I wouldn't see my due date. I had severe SPD throughout my pregnancy so I was fed up.
Started losing my plug afterwards but my date came and went. I had a 2nd sweep on Tuesday 21st. Midwife said I was 3cm and didn't understand why I hadn't gone into labour yet. She referred me to the consultant and made my appointment for Wednesday 22nd to discuss induction.
I went in to see consultant at 2pm. She gave me another sweep and said I was 4cm dilated at that point and should go soon but due to my SPD she made me an appointment for 8am the next day to go in and have my waters broken.
Anyway, I got home and felt a bit uncomfortable. Thought they were braxtons as I had a few of them on and off. My mother in law took my 2 year old to stay because I was going in the next morning and they left at 5pm.
At 6pm I went to the toilet, sat down and my waters broke. I was on my own so I cleaned up and went to phone the hospital to tell them. They said ring when contractions are 5 minutes apart and go and have a bath and take paracetamol. I phoned my husband who was just leaving work and he said he'd be home soon. The contractions started coming really fast so I rang the labour ward again. They said not to come in as I'd be examined and sent home again if they weren't 3 minutes apart. I said they were coming more than 5 minutes apart and I couldn't really talk through them. She said I had to wait!!!!
My husband arrived home at 6.45pm and I told him we had to leave. I didn't want to ring them back because I knew they'd say to wait but I knew this baby girl was coming. I had a 5.5 hour labour with my first so I knew I'd be quick.
We got to the hospital around 7.20pm and they started trying to take details etc but I told them I was needing to push. Don't think they believed me. About 10 minutes later she examined me and I was 9.5cm dilated. I knew I hadn't been exaggerating
.
I got some gas and air (hadn't had any until that point).
All of a sudden I knew the urge had changed and I had to roar! She looked again and said I could push. I had been on all fours but turned over as I wasn't comfy. My husband was great, wiped my brow and told me I was doing really well.
At 7.49pm Eden Iris Ross was born weighing 7lb 11.5oz and 48.5cm long.
She is perfect but things started to go wrong.
My placenta was stuck so they tried to manually remove it after I tried pushing but it wouldn't move.
After such a quick birth and no pain relief I had to go to theatre and had a spinal block to remove the placenta. Turned out I had a second degree tear to the rear so needed stitches for that and a couple at my urethra.
It was horrendous and I lost 850ml's of blood and needed a catheter, drips, anti sickness fluids and drugs for my blood pressure which dropped too low.
The process took about 2 hours and I was in recovery for 2 hours until I was finally wheeled back to my husband and Eden.
It was a pretty scary experience but on Thursday 23rd I managed to get up and walk about and passed urine after the catheter was removed. I am on iron tablets as I was borderline transfusion, antibiotics as my membranes were ragged so a chance of infection.
We were allowed home at 5pm on Thursday though and I am over the moon to be a mummy to 2 gorgeous little girls.
