My apologies if there has been a thread like this already. I'm looking for videos of animal and people births to show Byron before our homebirth as I'm hoping he might be around to see and thought this might be a good way to prepare him. Obviously I'm looking for really lovely vids, realistic but not too gory!

I thought I could post some here (and you can too) so that we can pool resources.

An amazing animal ones that might not be suitable for kids but wow!

Oh that elephant one was quite distressing, she was so desperate, holding it's little trunk :-(

But how amazing are elephant mums? I just wish the zoo people had put some straw down or something to help with that crash landing!

MM if you look here I just realised those last two are both on your fb page! :dohh:

I've not had much success with vids tonight so do all please post some if you know of some. I hope I can breathe my baby out like in those those last two though...

Yes, poor baby could've done with a softer landing! I have a video somewhere of a little spaniel giving birth at our practice, she was induced then I got to spend my whole working day sitting with her in a lovely warm kennel while she had 6 pups.

Is it a natural video? Feel free to upload if it's it's convenient. For the animal ones I want to find ones that aren't assisted really but I found it surprisingly hard to find any at all!!

I'll try and find it. It's natural, all I did was let her cuddle up to me while she gave birth then check umbilical cords. She was a first time mum and just a bit worried by the whole thing.

I started crying when the mommy elephant was doing all she could to get the baby to breath. Crying not so much because I was scared but almost in awe of watching this animal do what she instinctively thought she needed to do to get the baby to breath. Just from doing a normal kick to getting a worried and getting his head to move about. That was beautiful. Thanks PB!

I love those other two videos you put up. I think they're in the first post of the Home birth and hopefuls thread as well. They must be the most popular because they were the first videos I ever watched of a water birth before even coming on here. Maybe in a few weeks I can add my own! Not that you girls would want to see my bits hahaha.

I wasn't sure if this thread is for animal videos only or if any type of video could go on here but while I was fiddling around on youtube I found a really inspiring video about a VBAC which I thought would be great for a lot of the women on here who are hoping for one. The woman on the video is the US as well so it's great for those who think they can't do it because the laws are so much different than in the UK.

I am excited to watch these!

ETA: Why wouldn't they have grass or something in the "birthing area?" I can't see an elephant picking a concrete pad for their baby to smack down on to :(

I'm using the same fishy pool as that second video :D

I can't wait!!!!!!!

Thanks for that one Jenni. I did see that one but for Byron I'm hoping to get a video rather than a collection of stills in case he can't really get it from that. But there's no reason for people not to post anything they like in this thread! :D

Where do you get the fish pool from Kandy? I wondered if it was a kids pool but with the high sides assumed not. It's pretty funky!

This website Is an excellent resource for natural birth mums and also has some videos https://birthowl.wordpress.com/

I got mine from www.preciousarrows.com but it's available from lots of different places. It's technically called the Intex Aquarium pool and it is a kiddie pool but it's been widely used by water birth mamas on a budget who refer to it as the fishy pool.

Ah that explains it then. I'm lucky as our community MW team has about 6 pools (or they did last pregnancy, they might have even more now!) so I dont' have to get my own, just a liner to go in it.

My midwife only has one pool, but she's working solo. It's quite a small community. Unfortunately, a woman due March 8th also wanted the pool so because her due date is first she gets the pool first and I really didn't want to spend $40 on a liner and risk not getting the pool when I could spend the same amount on a pool and be guaranteed to have it in my home when I go into labour.

Sounds eminently sensible. Plus you can play in it in the meantime! ;)
