i had an episiotomy and tore with my eldest son, and didnt at all with my daughter (littlest one was a c-section for breech) and after the healing time of 6 weeks or so, things do go back to normal and with my experience personally (sorry if tmi) things were quite tight the first few times after baby. this could possibly be just the amount of time before you get to be intimate again.
i do have a scar down there, but its barely noticable and doesnt change the feeling.
Good luck!!
I had a different experience with my first - I tore, not too badly or anything, but needed stitches. They didn't heal quite right, and had to have minor outpatient 'surgery' at my 6 week post partum. I was quite sore, and quite swollen that entire time. It took another 6 weeks to recover from the fix, and I was scared to death of having sex afterwards. The first time was rather painful, but it really was back to normal pretty quickly considering how traumatic things had been! But things definitely changed for me - positions I had enjoyed before became uncomfortable, but positions I hadn't liked were suddenly wonderful
With my second, I was soooo paranoid of ripping again! But, I did anyway - and had a few stitches. I healed up perfectly in no time. Here iit isn't standard to get the greenlight until the 6 week check, but I had zero problems and no pain that time around.
This time around I'm looking into delivery positions that are meant to minimize ripping - so if it is something you are seriously worried about, check out perineal massage, kegels, and various delivery positions designed to work the most with your body vs against it.
