I am currently 14 weeks 3 days along. I was diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma at 12 weeks when I rushed into the hospital for some light brown spotting. I ended up in the ER twice for the light spotting. I was told to not worry about it since it was so light and intermittent and to only come back in if I had severe bleeding or if I started cramping.

On Sunday morning at 6am I woke up because I needed to pee. All of a sudden I felt this gush and ended up rushing into the ER just pouring blood. Bright red. They found the baby's heart rate and since I was no longer bleeding, they decided to send me home and book an u/s for 1-2 weeks later.

I just woke up and for some reason could not sleep. I went to the bathroom and I am bleeding lightly, bright pink. No clots, no tissue, no cramps. I'm debating whether I should bother waking up my hubby (he has to work in the morning) and rushing into the ER just to either wait for 5 hours or be sent home with no tests. There is no U/S available at the hospital until morning and I'm getting really sick of being treated like I'm wasting the doctors time, but I have nowhere else to go...:sad1:

well I called the nurse and since I am not bleeding to death I don't have to go to the ER. I'm still scared that something is wrong, I've been obsessing over possibly losing the baby since Sunday...I guess I'll just sit and stew for a bit and see if the bleeding stops...

This is the worst isn't it. Every time you go to the loo you dread what you will see.

I bled on and off, very lightly in the early days and after two miscarriages I was so worried and stressed out!

Fingers crossed everything will work out ok for you. Do you have the scan booked soon?

Soonest I could get was the 6th of April and I had to cry on the phone to get that...I do have a GP appt for tomorrow but that's not going to help me much. I'm just scared that I'll lose the baby. I had a very uneventful first trimester and then all of a sudden...it's all falling apart on me.

PS I just went to the bathroom again and the bleeding is slowly but surely getting worse. I hope I don't start gushing again. I'm trying to hold off until 6 am when the hospital should be fairly empty...

Good luck. Hopefully the ER will be able to set your mind at rest.

get to er again and tell them you wont something sorted asap as you cant take much more..its not as though its just the once it has happened a number of times..goodluck hun

I had a hematoma ans had bleeding from 10 weeks and very heavily, turned out it wasn't just the hematoma I had placenta previa as well, sadly this caused me to go into premature labour and died during delivery.

HOWEVER... this doesn't mean it will happen to you,m if it is just a hematoma it is the blood coming away from the clot, it should go by 20 weeks, are you using more then 5 maternity pads aday then you may have to stay in hospital.

Is your bleeding daily?

Don't do anything physical, rest and drink plenty and eat protein.

Bed rest can help ....

Good luck let me know or pm me if you want more info xx

This is driving me nuts. I got my u/s and the baby is doing fine. Wiggling all over and just being a hard case for the u/s tech. I bled for 3-4 days and then I stopped for 3 days. I was so happy...I went for Easter dinner at mom and dad's house. We were all playing crib and laughing up a storm. Half an hour before dinner is ready I laugh and what should happen? Another good gush of blood. I didn't even freak out this time. I ate my dinner and then went to the hospital.

It's pretty bad when you're so used to bleeding during your pregnancy that it doesn't even scare you anymore. Anyway, heartbeat is good and I'm just having some light pink spotting now. I'm just sick and tired of the hospital...we don't have any OB's here.

When I start bleeding heavily, I'll blow through an overnight pad in less than 10-15 minutes. Sometimes two of them. It then tapers off to hardly anything. It's more annoyance than anything now. The doc orders that any time I have heavy bleeding like that, I am to get the heartbeat checked. Luckily I was in and out in less than an hour today. Apparently nobody else wanted to miss Easter dinner either lol.

Jesus what a nightmare... you poor thing, you must be frantic! I hope everything remains ok for you :hugs::hugs::hugs:

Well the baby shows no stress even when I'm bleeding heavily. I have a subchorionic hemorrhage...SCH...they're usually nothing to really worry about. You just bleed. It's a blood clot or hemmorhage behind the placenta. Mine is very small but VERY active. I've had 3 large hemorrhages so far...I hope there's no more. The big bleeds can be scary, spotting doesn't even alarm me anymore. I don't have any clots so that's a relief.

It is a nightmare, but I can feel baby moving when I lie very still now so I am not too worried that anything will happen to baby.

Its very strange... have they found out exactly what it is? Is it going to stop? :hugs:

They don't know what causes it, and they can't really do anything about it. All they do is keep an eye on things. Less than 10% of these types of pregnancies end in miscarriage and the risk of miscarriage is related to the size of the SCH. Mine is small so chances of it causing me to lose the baby are pretty slim. Baby measures a little big for dates but we know the dates are correct. So baby is doing just fine.

These bleeds usually clear up by 20 weeks but some hang in there until the end of the pregnancy. It could go away in 2 days...lets hope for that outcome!

Just wanted to let you know that I had a SCH with ds2, I was a WORST CASE senario. I bleed all the way through the pg, I actually 'poured' with blood. It flowed out like a tap when I sat on the toilet. I also lost lots of clots.
At 26wks it caused a placenta abruption and he was born at just 1lb. He is now a lively 2yr old whos smile breaks my heart.
I was told they have never seen one as bad as mine - and my ds is here, and fine.
I also had another one during this pg but was gone by 20wks (As over 90% usually are)
I did'nt tell you this to scare you but to show you that to loose your baby due to this is very very rare. I am in contact with alot of women who all had this problem and all of them had a healthy term baby.

Well the statistics show that any pregnancy with bleeding has a 50% chance of carrying to term. That being said, only about 10% of pregnancies with an SCH end in miscarriage and there really is no evidence that the SCH, unless it is very large, is what causes the loss of pregnancy.

I have had another U/S and the SCH has been determined to be of "No clinical importance" It is at the top of the fundus and shouldn't interfere with my pregnancy at all. The doctor still wants me to rest and just take it easy to keep bleeding to a minimum but otherwise, we're all very optimistic.

Hi hun, i'm so sorry you're going through this. I had SCH at 5 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks - absolute nightmare. The bleeding stopped at 15 weeks and all has been fine since. There's an SCH group in the lounge area, which is a great place for support and has loads of information. xxx

I'm concerned of course, I think any mom to be would be in a perfect pregnancy let alone one where you start bleeding down your legs at random and aren't allowed out of the house. Because of the statistics though, and the fact that my SCH is very small (just very active), I'm not horribly freaked out about it. I WAS freaked out the first couple of times I had heavy bleeding, but the third time I was like "Not again...I'm starving and mom just made a turkey for Easter...I think I'll eat before going to the hospital."

I have been feeling movement since 14 weeks, which is very reassuring. Everything with this pregnancy is coming early, started to show at 8 weeks, heartbeat with the doppler at 12 weeks, movement at 14. That makes it a lot easier to deal with. I can feel baby moving a LOT, I don't think baby ever sleeps. Baby also measures a little big for dates, not overly large, but I think I'm having a whopper of a child. I know my dates are dead on since baby was measuring perfect at my first U/S at 12 weeks 3 days.

I've been the same. Despite the bleeding, baby has continued to develop in line with dates and the pregnancy has always been described as strong. My SCH were relatively small compared to other ladies that have posted on here and the docs were never especially concerned! This helped me to come to terms SCH, however the actual bleeding does mess with your head and I had a both good and bad days. By the sounds of things you also have a little fighter (mine never stops moving either! :) ). I hope the bleeding gives you a break soon and as you already know, for the vast majority of ladies it does stop.... i guess its bit of a waiting game.

I also have an SCH.

Look at the SCH group in the lounge area

loads of info and support x
