How unusual is it for a breatfeeding mother (who breastfeeds one heck of a lot tbh) to have a period after just 13 weeks?

I've had some unusual bleeding this morning (just a small amount), followed by a 50-pence-piece-sized blood clot... I don't think this is a period as it isn't like normal period blood, and I've got none of my usual symptoms... but I have been having *really* bad cramps for the last few weeks...

Does this sound like a normal first period? The bleeding has stopped now from what I can tell....

Erratic cycles and 'one day periods' are pretty normal post partum - especially with bf mamas. It's our prolactin production that shorts out the fertility cycle. Our booby juice-making-body is telling our fertile system that we're nurishing a baby and need to hold off on making another one ;)

So most bleeding for that first year is non-fertile, iow you have probably not ovulated, but your fertile system is still attempting to get back on track but it does so in stops and spurts trying to ovulate, against the prolactin cues.

Regardless, ecological breastfeeding is really hard for some women to achieve. They are just way too fertile ;)

My first baby I had a full normal period about 5 weeks after I had DD, and every month following until I got pregnant with Sharlotte.

Definately AF.

Not fair! :growlmad: I feed Anna so much! And my mum and sister never got periods for at least a year after having their babies! :hissy: humph

So unfair ::stomps foot!::

I was mad as well, I even ovulated when he was still feeding every 1-3 hours at night. He just started sleeping through like 3 days before I got my period. Stupid period, so not fair!!!!! :gun: now I will probably have to deal with annoying cysts until I stop bf and go on birth control. Maybe yours will be short, mine only lasted about five days but it was light/medium, the cramps were horrible though. Seems like theres three of us breast feeders who have just got our periods.

Mine just stopped! I was really bummed when I saw that telltale spotting. I thought maybe it had something to do with starting the pill, but I guess its normal for some BF'ing moms to start.

Sorry it already happened for ya!

i had some bleeding around the time tyler was 4 months thought it was af but had nothing since. im sorry it didnt stay away as long as you'd hoped. xx
