Does anyone know what their hcg level was when you discovered an empty sac? I'm worried mine was too high at 37,000 At 6.4 weeks and it could be something worse, like one of those pregnancies where the placenta just keeps developing!

i found out i had a blighted ovum at my 8 week scan. i believe my hcg levels were 53,000 at that point. but as i continued to have them checked they did decrease. i waited 1 week before making the decision to have a d&c. i wanted to be 100% certain there was no baby in there. At my 2nd ultrasound, the doctor confirmed the sac look as if it was collapsing, which is another symptom of the blighted ovum. I knew at that point there was no baby.... :( And a blighted ovum really is "one of those pregnancies where the placenta continues to develop". That is what makes you "feel pregnant" and test positive. At 6.5 weeks, there could always be a possibility that it is not a blighted ovum. Check out this website for more details:

Thanks Rebekah, sorry for your loss x x x. Are you trying again now?

YES! :winkwink:BUT the doctor recommended we wait 3 months (she recommends it to all women so the body can "heal") but I have done enough research to make my own decision and we decided to wait 1 cycle instead of 3. We are extremely nervous and I think we will be shocked if we are but we are more than excited about trying again! It was so easy to get pregnant the first time (we tried only one time... not CYCLE but one TIME, ha ha).

I really don't think three months is necessary, sheesh! We are baby making machines so we can do it! I always get pregnant whenever we try but just can't keep them, working on that though. You'll be fine next time I'm sure! X x

i dont think it is necessary either! but she was adamant about waiting. she even tried to put me on BC for the next 3 months! i don't see why it's such a big deal. if your body is ready to accept a pregnancy then it will.

What!! I agree! Bc! :nope: I think one clear cycle is enough, I have to wait one clear cycle this time, I always sneak in on the 1st af after mc, but not this time, have to have some patience. I just know you're going to be fine next time x x x

I've seen some of the best docs due to my recurrent mc condition at the mo. Half say one clear cycle, half say it matters not when next time - go for it!

Fili, I was thinking - did they say anything about the appearance of your sac? With mine they said it didnt look nice and smooth round the edges, it was a bit jagged - this is apparently a good indicator of a BO. Im really hoping they got it wrong for you xxx

Thanks mrs moo, it was a normal sac measuring 20mm. They never said how 20mm corresponds to dates exactly, the doctor said less than 6 weeks though.

They said mine was 5+ weeks at 11mm so that sounds about right. We both have tilted uteruses tho dont we so I guess measurements could be out? Mine is def not good though as going by lmp I should be 8weeks and nothing much has changed with me in 10days.
Whens your next scan?

Friday morning at 9.45 am. I'm really hoping that there is still nothing there and they give me the miscarriage tablets tbh. Obviously I would be delighted with a 7.4 baby beating away but in my experience babies behind dates = mc and waiting around for the hb to stop. So I'm hoping it is a healthy baby first and empty sac still second! X x

I hope you get a definite answer one way or the other hun coz this waiting is horrible. I think the worst thing for me is having sickness, sore boobs etc and knowing there's nothing growing in there :nope: I hope they can confirm for me next week as ironically my bleeding stopped yesterday and i don't think this is gonna happen on it's own like last time.

I'll be stalking for your update then and i have everything crossed for you :hugs:

Yes the symptoms are horrible aren't they, for no reason too! I hope the same for you too x x x

I think mine is pretty much confirmed, just having to follow protocol really. I'm pretty fed up with the whole bloody thing now to be honest!!!
