Ive got a blocked duct...gutted, is killing for scott to feed off my right boob. mw said it will prob clear on its own.....any advice?!

aww, so sorry to hear this. hope it clears soon. xx

I had a very nasty blocked duct, which got infected and I had arather nasty fever. Try when feeding off that breast, massage the blocked duct gently, kinda like you'd milk a cow. Also running your palm down your breast towards your nipple whilst in the shower helps too. xxx

It's already been said; just keep on feeding from that side, your babies strong suck will eventually pull it out! To help it along the way though, try massaging the boob along the blocked duct towards the nipple while feeding and also while in the shower.

It will clear up soon!!

thanks will it effect my supply in he other side if i feed off the blocked side as I normally swap sides each feed?

When my duct was blocked I tended to always start the feed on the blocked side to make sure LO fed off it as much as possible but she tended to give up after a few minutes and finished off on the other boob anyway so my supply wasn't affected. Good luck :hugs:

I had mastitis when Annie was 2 weeks old and had 2 have antibiotics and my left side was agony. I couldnt feed her off it cuz of the infection but still had 2 express from that side even though it was sore, and throw the milk away, which was absolutely gutting to see it go to waste. I've not produced as much milk since I had it think it was because I was trying not to over use the breast cuz of the pain, so I would say just going.

Massaging in the shower always helps me. Also lay low today, take it easy. A block duct can turn into mastitis.

There is absolutely no reason to stop nursing from a breast which has mastitis!! IN fact it will heal faster if you DO nurse from the affected side.

As for blocked ducts...they usually do go away on their own but applying heat to the affected area, massage and rest will all speed along recovery.

I couldnt give her the milk cuz it was infected and pusey on docs advice

I think one of mine clogged up to in the first few days... :( I guess it cleared on its own... wish you the same :)

Your Doctor has no education on breastfeeding and is full of crap! Even if your baby swallows the pus absolutely nothing will happen except s/he will poop it out the other end! By continuing to breastfeed on the infected breast the baby would actually have developed immunity to any infection!!

Doctors receive little to no education on breastfeeding in medical school, believe what formula company and pharmaceutical company reps tell them and pass on inaccurate information just like the average person on the street

I can agree with this because like I mentioned in a recent post about bcp yasmine ... pharm reps (like my cousin was) are the devils advocate... doctors weigh opinion greatly on what they tell them ( most doctors )
