Hello ladies!

I've been looking through this forum and I haven't seen a thread dedicated to women just having blocked tubes or other problems related to it. I've seen the female infertility factor thread but I wanted to make a thread just for this reason..are there any ladies out there with stories and success stories with blocked tubes/infertility? Or would like to vent on their journey with blocked tubes? This is the thread! Please share your stories!
Love and baby dust to all <3

I had 4 children naturally, albeit with 3 years between babies so imagine my surprise when my husband and i TTC for 2+ years and an HSG revealed both tubes were blocked. They suggested at the time I had probably had one tube blocked most of my life, hence the length of time between pregnancies. I was set on having a recannulization procedure however I scheduled an appointment with a specialist (a cardiologist) who was to do the procedure. Instead what he did was reinsert a catheter into my uterus, fill with dye again as in an HSG, then used a cardiac cath balloon to put some internal pressure into my uterus and VIOLA ! One tube open with the possibility of the second. The second tube was NOT open and thats the one they thought was probably closed for most of my life (without rhyme or reason).

We tried on our own for an other 6 months before moving onto IUI. We did monitored cycles and the first IUI was done when i ovulated on the closed side, the next month we did IUI and got a BFP. We had twins until about 14 weeks but im currently 30 weeks with a baby girl :)

Thank you for responding! Wow, what a journey! That's so awesome that they opened up your tube that way..i never heard of them doing that. With the catheter and inflating the balloon to put pressure down there. That so awesome! Thank you for sharing your journey, maybe we'll get more! Congratulations on your baby girl!

Hi there, HSG revealed that both of my tubes were blocked. They were able to unblocked the left one a little bit but tge possibility of the egg to pass through the tube was really small. Mine was caused by a cheating ex bf, who gave me chlamydia. So my blockages were closer to the ovaries. Hence, the possibility of tubal pregnancy was really high for me. Due to my age, I decided against experimenting with other methods. I just turned 39. Even though my RE told me that there is nothing else wrong and I'm still ovulating like I'm in my 20s, we decided to go through the IVF route. I just had tubal ligation surgery on both tubes yesterday. Since the hydrosalpinx acts like a natural birth control, it was recommended to have them tied. We will start the IVF in October and I am pretty excited :).

Hope my story helps a little since you are right. There are not too many ladies with tubal issues.

I'm assuming that you also have tubal issue?

I accidently posted the same thing haha..you'll see my answer.

Hello :) thank you for responding. Your story is similar to mine but without the cheating...i was never one to sleep around, I just got very UNLUCKY with 1 person before SO. Which really blows but I can't keep beating myself up for it. I have to deal with the here and now. I haven't had an HSG done (will soon though!) to see if they are truly blocked. The thing is, is that i'm young still. I'll only be 21 in the next month..so my fertility should be peaking. I've been with my SO for almost 4 years this year and we don't use any contraceptives or protection. And I haven't been pregnant once. That's why I know there's something wrong. Maybe it's all in my head, I don't know. I hope it is, but i'm pretty sure it's not. Maybe i'm tracking my cycles wrong? I don't know, all I know is that it hasn't happened yet :( When I got checked, my OBGYN said that everything looked fine with her exam and the ultrasounds. I'm really hoping my age benefits me. It sucks they couldn't open your tubes back up :( I heard that there's a surgery to permanently open them, to 'filet' them or whatever. But I could be wrong. I REALLY hope IVF works for you when you start this October! I would love for you to keep me updated on your journey! Are you doing the mini or just the regular? I would be excited too, you finally get to try! Loads and loads and LOADS of baby dust to you. I really hope you get your BFP!!! Prayers to you!

Hi Cheetah

I totally understand how you feel. It took me a while and lots of crying to get over it. Thinking that my action toward the scum bag would put me in jail! Hahaha. But you are right, life goes on and we have to do whatever we can now. If you did have chlamydia, then your possibility of having blocked tubes are pretty high. I wish I can say something different. But, hopefully that's the only issue then it'll be a pretty easy one compare to other people :).

I'm doing a full IVF and my RE already told me that he is going to be agressive with the process. I'm more than ok with that as long as we have a baby or two.

I do have a journal. Here is the link https://babyandbump.momtastic.com/ttc-journals/2216623-ttc-assisted-conception.html

Feel free to follow and definitely keep in touch, let me know if you start a journal!

When are you going to have the HSG?

Hahaha, i'm the same way as you! I could literally kill the guy who gave it to me. I was the same exact way, I cried for months! Months! But after awhile, I started to get better. A bit more optimistic. My SO helped me out ALOT, very comforting as I couldn't talk to my mother about it. It really blowed not to tell her because we're so very close but I just didn't want her to know that bad part about me. I did have this STI. For awhile. I talked to my OBGYN about this and she said that it takes years and years to make you infertile and to cause problems like PID for example. She also said that I would know if I had PID because I would 'feel' it. I guess it's really painful? And she said that I would've already been given treatment for the PID if I did have it. The PID is what makes you infertile not the STI itself. That's what she was trying to explain to me and plus she said that my age is a very good factor. I don't know though, she could be wrong. Did your doctor or OBGYN ever test you for PID, ilovetomatoes? Did they ever give you medication for it? I will be going in soon, maybe in a week or so, to have tests done. And I will be seeing my OBGYN not just my regular doctor. I really want an HSG done to see and I want bloodwork to be done as well. Was your HSG painful? Because i've heard it is! I will definitely be making a journal after I figure out what is exactly wrong and I would love for you to follow it! You and a couple other women make me feel like i'm not the only one and it helps! Sorry for this being long, I just had to talk lol.

Cheetah, I'll just stick to your thread to answer all of your questions :)

The hydrosalpinx came from the blocked tubes. In all honesty, I don't think I have it after looking at the pics of the surgery that I just had. Yup, my surgeon took screen shots and put it in my file so my RE has access to it and able to see the end result of the surgery. Love my hospital :)

I actually had really bad stomach cramp one day and am a bit of hypochondriac. So I called and saw my OB the next day. She did tests and told me that I have chlamydia, which shocked the heck out of me. I never got tested for PID and we were hoping that we caught it early enough, which of course not the case now.

I really hope that you don't have blocked tubes or if you do, HSG could unblocked it for you.

HSG wasn't too bad for me but I took 1 ibuprofen 600 mg 1 hr prior then another one 30 minutes prior. The ibuprofen helped a lot. HSG should be done within 5 - 7 days after CD 1 if I'm not mistaken. Lots of blood tests. They took 28 vials of blood on my first set of tests. Then there were a few more after that. Your SO might need to give sperm for SA since you might not be the problem.

I don't mind long replies! As long as I can help, I'm happy to answer any questions. I remember when I first got the verdict & wasn't able to find much info about it. :hugs:

Hi ladies, its funny my story is the same my ex boyfriend cheated on me gave me chlamydia. I didn't find out I had until 3 years later. So when I went for my HSG test the OBGYN seen that my tubes where damaged. I cried with my husband and blamed myself. But I can't dwell on the past it is what it is. I'm still a little angry at the poor choice I made in picking such a loser.

As for the HSG test its little uncomfortable take advil half hour before. I did a bunch of blood test before I had to the HSG test. My husband had to do a sperm sample too. He is good. And now we have to do more blood test for the IVF clinic.

I think the OBGYN must see a lot of this chlamydia affect tubes, because that was the first thing he asked me. Did you have chlamydia or infection?

Its nice to have buddies who are going through the same thing. You don't feel so alone.

Axl

Axl, :hugs: :hugs:

I'm thankful for our awesome SO and DHs! Yes. I think about 60% of blocked tubes are caused by chlamydia. So it is quite common since it's not detectable until much later. The price of trusting a person can be too high at times. But, we took our chances and learned from it. It's another battle wound of life, which I believe would make us stronger individual.

We are lucky that our only issue so far is blocked tubes. My RE told me that I have between 35 _ 45% success rate with the iVF for my age, which is pretty high according to him.

Axl, I read your thread and all I want to say is that I'm glad you've decided to go through the IVF route. It's going to be an emotional journey but I am here for you! :hugs:

Good morning ladies!

Wow, I love reading all of what you ladies have to say..it makes me feel so much better. But I can say that it does scare me a bit because you both ended up with blocked tubes :( which really really sucks. I must of have had the infection for at least a year before finding out that I even had it. Then I was on antibiotics for 3 weeks..they wanted to make sure it was truly gone. I'm just afraid that they're blocked and I won't be able to conceive. IVF is soooo expensive. SO and I won't be able to afford it. Thank you ILT, I hope they're not too blocked either. It's scaring the crap out of me. I just want the test done so I know for sure. I wonder if hydrosalpinx develops in all women who have blocked tubes...i'm glad Axl joined the conversation. You ladies are very helpful. When I have the HSG done, I will make sure to take advil because you both said it helps! I will post my results on this thread. Last night, I really broke down with SO telling him my worries. I was balling. He promised that we'll get everything taken care of and everything will work out. I don't see that happening. He wants to go with me to my appointment. I'm not trying to be negative but I do have some of my bad days with this. I've realized that you never know what ONE mistake could do and all it's consequences. If I could, I would literally go back in time and kick my younger self's ass!!! Sorry for the A-word but it's true. But I can't, got to deal with the here and now. I'm so happy for you both, I can't wait for your journey's with IVF!!! I'll be here reading away :) I can't wait for you both to have your little ones! Haha, I want to know everything about it. Because if this option works for you both, it will give me hope. Even if it's very expensive...

Cheetah <3

Awwwww Cheetah, plenty of :hugs:. I know how you feel. You should let your SO go with you. My DH didn't go in with me for the HSG procedure but he waited outside. It was a good thing because I was able to think rationally without him being there. I was balling in the parking lot after I told him the verdict. Just so you know, EVERYTHING is going to be ok! Are you living in the US? There are grants and helps for IVF procedure, so don't give up hope if you need one. When it comes to that point, I'll send you the links. For now, let's hope that it's something that can be fix easily. I think we all wish that we could go back and kick our younger self :)

I think if they would have found out that I had chlamydia sooner maybe my tubes wouldn't be blocked. I would let SO go with you. My husband waited in the truck cause we had our dogs (we live 5 hours from OBGYN). When I got into the truck I cried I'm glad he was there I couldn't imagine if he wasn't there. Think positive and hopefully its nothing or something they can fix. I wish I could kick my younger self in the ass and say stay away from that loser.
You ladies are awesome!!
Axl

Btw ladies, I forgot to mention that there is one other way beside tubal ligation for blocked tubes. Your RE can install Essure for you. It takes less than 30 minutes and no recovery period. It's a coil that you insert in your tubes and act like tubal ligation. After that, you have to wait 3 months to make sure it works properly. I personally don't like to have foreign objects in my body. I already have 2 screws on each big toes for my bunions removal. I do suggest to do a little research on this. I'm glad that I did so I was able to make the correct decision for myself. FYI, Erin Brokovich has a website regarding Essure. Can't be a good thing if she is on it :). There is also the balloon option to open the tubes but damaged tubes are already damaged. It's missing the hair like fingers at the end and inside the tubes. So even if they are open, possibility of ectopic is still there. My RE told me that out of a few patients, who he referred to his colleague to open their tubes yearly, he hasn't heard any success story so far. If your RE wants to charge an arm & a leg for tubal ligations, go to your OB. Your insurance should cover that.

Axl, since you have awesome insurance, I don't think you'll have any issues w/ bilings. :)

My DH went with me to the first HSG and i cvried when leaving because of both tubes being blocked He did NOT go with me for the tubal opening thing HSG because i scheduled it while he was at work. He had said originally he didn't want to know, he doesn't have any kids so he was feeling his own depression and frusteration at the situation Eventually I did tell him i had it done and that it worked, but I think im glad he didn't go with me the second time and he wasn't aware.

I didn 't take anything before the first HSG, the second i took Advil and Tylenol just to be safe but still had no pain.

Take one step at a time and see what happens :)

Good afternoon ladies!

First, I want to apologize for not posting in awhile. I just had to get my mind off of TTC...let my mind rest. Because it causes me major anxiety. To all the ladies, thank you SO very much for your kind advice. It helps. My HSG is later this week so i'm nervous/excited to find out the results. I've heard that it's more painful with blocked tubes than it is when they're not. But as you ladies have said, it wasn't that painful for you and plus everybody is different. I talked to my doctor about PID some more and i'm almost relieved. PID is the thing i'm worried most about but she made me feel calm about it. (i know, i've talked about PID before. Bare with me here lol). I've been negative for the STI for years now but PID may remain which makes you infertile. She went over all these symptoms: yellow discharge, pain in your abdomen, pain while having intercourse, spotting/bleeding in between periods, bleeding after intercourse, which I have none of. Which is GREAT! She said that's a positive sign that I don't have the disease. She went on to say that many women that had PID (if I did have it) in the past have gone on to have perfectly normal pregnancies afterwards. The BIGGEST GLIMMER OF HOPE i've heard in a very long time. I'm thinking, after my HSG, about taking chinese herbs to get my body a lil bit more healthy. I mean, i'm not unhealthy or anything, just to give my body a little boost. Axl and ILT, are you both open to herbs and such? Or cortizone packets I believe they're called? I was reading another thread earlier and I saw that a woman used either the herbs or the packets and one of her tubes re-opened in 3 months! I thought that was the most amazing thing I read. Of course Ariannnda can respond as well, I just wanted to let the other ladies know what I read. It gave me hope. I think i'm the only 20 year old who really wants a child hahaha but that's okay! I've always wanted children. So please give me those crossed fingers for this HSG! Have a nice day ladies and remember just because a doctor says you'll never conceive naturally, doesn't mean CRAP. Anything is possible.

I've looked up this Essure, very interesting! I even went on the website Erin Brokovich made.

Cheetah, you are lucky that you have age on your side!! I'd look into alternative methods before IVF since you still have plenty of time. The drawback is the emotional roller coaster of seeing BFNs month after month if you decided to go through other alternatives. I've heard castro oil pack and 1 other item helps with unblocking tubes. Sorry on my tablet, I'll post the name of the other item tomorrow. Some ladies swear by it. But, it's not a miracle drug and it can take months for it to work.

With that said, I did acupuncture for a few months and about to pick it back up soon. My acupuncturist did tell me that unblocked tubes are rarely able to get unblocked naturally. She could be wrong though. I like my acupuncturist. She is also like my therapist! Lol.

Regarding pain on HSG. with me, 2 blocked tubes, the pain was like a really bad stomach cramp after you ate something wrong. But I'm sure the ibuprofen helped because I have a saline u/s recently, similar to HSG but using saline instead of die, and it hurts pretty dang bad! But nothing that you can't handled. No ibuprofen at that time since I didn't know they were going to do that. A few eye squinting moments, gritting your teeth, deep breaths, and sheep counting lol. But that was over pretty fast. Good luck on the HSG! You can do it! No biggie! Hopefully it'd be good news!

Hi ladies.
I too have blocked tubes.... Distal end.
Lovely parting gift from my ex that when undiscovered for many years.
Defo worth it to read this as it may help you & there is a VERY interesting copied & pasted story I found on another website.

Awful hospital experience...
Had lap & dye test to confirm both blocked, husband & I devastated I have daughter from pervious relationship before PID.
My Doctor didn't come & speak to me after lap & dye had to wait two very long weeks for results.
Had another app with another Gyne doctor to discuss results...
All a blur as I was so upset hubby couldn't be with me due to work she skimmed over my results very fast & got to the IVF part and assured me not to worry as they can do some amazing things for me....
Left app happy & confident & ready for next app at CARE clinic within DRH....
Oh I was so wrong....
So very wrong....
Arrived at next app after excited to talk to doctor about what they have planned maybe tubal surgery??
Reported to reception for app to be taken by a nurse into the office to tell me the doctor I have app with is refusing to see me!?!?
I got passed from doctor to doctor with the promise that they can help me when all they wanted is to get me to CARE IVF clinic because we have to pay for our treatment as I have daughter.

I had so little knowledge of what questions to ask they really didn't give me much just not to worry and I was passed on.
I'm in the process of getting my questions answered as we have managed to save 6k ready for our one & only shot @ IVF in Jan 2015.
I have read through many websites regarding lap & dye test show blocked tubes but then "should" follow up with HSG if everything looks fine BUT no dye spills.
I don't know if I'm scared or its fluid?
HSG test have been known to open your tubes a little bit can close after up to 3 months.
So that's what I'm trying to get more info on my tubes my questions answered and a HSG
As I need to make sure everything is ok ready for IVF As I hear if it's gunk in tube sorry TMI it "can" leak into uterus and damage chances with IVF.

Sometimes a "blockage" is not a true blockage!
I have read stories regarding a natural way to help heal scars & open tubes & that's sarrapeptase & red clover.
I'm also a Reiki healer so trying to heal myself.
There is also fertility massage
And Chinese herbs
My questions that didn't get answered & shoved on to IVF clinic as we would have to pay for all treatment from now on.

Demand a Hsg test!!!
Even if you have had Lap & Dye test!!
Found this statement on fertility website.
"Sometimes an HSG is done after a laparoscopy and dye test to confirm that the tubes are open.At the laparoscopy everything may have looked healthy but no dye could be seen entering the tubes. This may have been due to tubal spasm or obstruction. AN HSG may help to clarify the situation"

1) Do my tubes, uterus & ovaries look normal? If so demand HSG test!!
2) Can a period affect outcome?
(I got my period day of lap & dye test.)
3) Show me what exact part is blocked?
As they didn't do this.
4) Is blockage Scar or gunk?
5) Are my fibre normal (fingers collect egg) are they stuck together causing blockage or is it my actual tube at distal ends that is blocked.
Why did I not get any blue dye discharge?? Sorry TMI
If it didn't come out at my distal ends & be absorbed why did i not see any dye in my underwear??
(Maybe they should have used more dye???
What dye water based or oil based how hard did he push it through? I have read oil based is better to "open"
How long did he wait for dye to go through? Did he wait long enough as I I read they can miss a tiny little trickle.... I'm

ALSO.... I FOUND THIS!
Doctors can be wrong!!!
Copied from another website I found....

Anyone that's been told they have blocked tubes please READ this!
Hello Ladies,

This is long but please read. I'd love to hear your thoughts. You will be floored when you read this! I'm a newbie here and would love to make new friends

I just joined this website yesterday. I have had a terrible last 9 months. I want to share my story with all of you so no one else goes through what I did.

November 08-Jan 09 and June 2009-Oct 2009 we tried on our own (There was Feb-May 08 that we couldnt try on our own due to another long story). So basically we had tried around 7 months on our own. 4 of those months were trying really hard (Fertility monitor and 2 rounds of clomid). I was just anxious to get pregnant. We had no real reasons at this point to think we were infertile. I'm the type that wants what I want yesterday, lol.

So anyway.. November 2009 I went to see my OBGYN because we had always been concerned I had ENDO. Basically because alot of my family members had it and I was always worried I had it because of terrible period cramps. With me being 27 I was concerned also. My gyno sent me to a reproductive endocrinoligist (internal referral at the same hospital). I see Dr. A (that's what we will call him even though I want to curse) late November 09. He does a 2 second pelvic exam and tells me he thinks I have endo. ***Keep in mind we already had a sperm analysis before this consult that was 220billion sperm count, decent motility, and low morphology. So I went to see Dr. A with a male factor infertility diagnosis in my head. So I of course start crying when he tells me I have endo. He schedules a laparoscopic surgery and hysteroscopy for December 5th. Post surgery he tells me that I have a BILATERAL proximal tubal occlusion meaning both tubes are blocked. He also tells me that I have Stage II endo and that he lasered what he could out. He said it was superficial on both ovaries and behind my rectum. My world is crushed. I am soo sooooo sad. I ask him bedside after surgery if we could schedule an HSG (I had already read all the clinical trials and knew that a abnormal tube finding during LAP/hystero should be followed up with an HSG. HSG should have been done in case I spasmed during surgery OR my lining was thick at the time and covered the tubes. He tells me that an HSG is NOT neccesary in my case because we know they are blocked. I again ask in the post op visit 2 weeks later if we could do an HSG. He again blows me off. I ask him if my tubes look normal from the outside during surgery. He says yes. And I said "so if they aren't hydrosalpinx how do we know they are blocked for sure without doing an HSG?" He says "In your case it could have been a congenital birth defect and they are just BLOCKED" He tells me IVF is our only option to get a baby. So we go on into IVF in Feb/March. Fresh cycle goes great. We get 14 eggs and 6 make it to really great graded embryos. We put 3 in on our 1st IVF with a negative pregnancy test. 2nd IVF is an FET in May 2010 and we again get a negative pregnancy test. He was a terrible IVF doc. He never did any baseline tests on hormones OR lining. I kept asking over and over and was continually treated like one of the cows in the herd. For the first IVF cycle I was on Lupron from Jan 20th to March 10th. WAY too long to be on LUPRON! My poor lil eggs were probabably fried and never had much of a chance even though they fertilized. So anywho.. over the course of our terrible IVF cycles I started getting suspicious and refused to do another fresh cycle with this Dr. A. So I got a second opinion in a town about 80 miles from where I live in July 2010. I go in thinking I'm gonna do IVF with this new doc. we will call new doc Dr. N. Because at this time I still thought my tubes were blocked. I just got a second opinion because I knew Dr. A's methods with IVF were terrible. I take all of my records to Dr. N. He spent about 3 hours with me in a consult. Very nice and thorough. He spent more time with me that day than Dr. A has adding up all the time total I've ever spent with dr. A. So... Dr. N is looking through my records and says "I dont think your tubes are blocked. I see nothing in this operative report that tells me I think your tubes are blocked.". I about fell out of my **** chair. Dr. N continues "In the LAP findings it says your tubes appear normal from the outside but they couldnt get the dye to go through them". He said "there is a 90% chance your tubes arent blocked". So he scheduled an HSG for the 13th and a pending LAP for the 20th depending on HSG results. Here are the results:
Aug 13th 2010-HSG-Normal results. Dye goes through both tubes (so definatley not a proximal blockage). One tube looks slightly suspicious on the distal end so we continue with the scheduled lap
Aug 20th- LAP with Divenchi robot- OPEN TUBES (PRAISE MY ALMIGHTY GOD) and NO ENDOmeteriosis!!

***********I just wanted to share my story on as many boards as possible to help others. Infertility and especially tube blockage is almost NEVER black and white. There are alot of gray areas. And unfortunatley some doctors take advantage of us. Always get a seconds opinion if you question your diagnosis/doctor at all**************

I think this doctor really thought I wiould get pregnant with IVF and would never question him. But his methods for IVF suck! His success rates on the CDC.gov which were released AFTER I had already done the two cycles with him are 15%!!!!!!!!!!
*** since this was posted this lady got pregnant NATURALLY & had live birth!!!

I'm waiting for referral to Gyne to get my HSG & my questions answered.
I look forward to hearing from you. Xx
