I had my first scan yesterday at 7+2 and the doctor said "I can see some pockets of blood in your uterus so don't worry if you get some bleeding but go the ER if it is a lot!?

He said it in a totally calm way as if he was not concerned but now I'm worried that I am going to start bleeding at any moment!

I asked if it meant the pregnancy was high risk and he said all pregnancies are risky in the first trimester! Not very reassuring...

Has anyone else had this and what happened?

I had a collection of blood at my first scan. It got described to me as a bruise basically (how a bruise is basically a collection of blood under the skin). I had my scan because of brown spotting and this was the cause of it. It put my mind at ease but got told that the blood would probably still come away for a week or 2 and it did, slowly, now it has stopped and at my scan yesterday there was no sign of it anymore.

I would say if you get brown spotting then not to worry, but if it is heavier than spotting or bright red blood then contact your midwife hun.

I also got told that this is common in a lot of women, they dont know what causes it but it doesnt cause any problems with the pregnancy. I hope that helps you a little hun x x

hi hun, it sounds like a subchorionic hematoma. apparently its fairly common. i had bleeding like a period a few weeks ago, i went for a scan and you can see the pocket right next to the baby but like you i was told not to worry about it.
if you do start bleeding though i would suggest you get in touch with your midwife so they can reffer you for a scan just to check everythings ok x

I had a scan at 9 weeks and was also told i had a tiny bleed just above the baby

she said id probably get it around 11 weeks when the placenta takes over but im 12 weeks tomorrow and touch wood, nothing yet

She did however say that when/if it does happen you should still go to EPAU to get checked out, you should do this with any bleed

but im glad she told me as if/when it does happen i wont freak out so much x

Thanks everyone. I'm just feeling nervous now because I'm worried I will start bleeding at any moment! I haven't had any bleeding so far.

i had a sub chorionic hematoma ( a bruise ) in my uterus at 7 weeks in my last pregnancy. i was put on full pelvic rest until 12 weeks and had to avoid exercise or lifting. i also took progesterone supplements. it healed itself and i had a gorgeous baby girl a few months later. try to rest as much as you can and don't lift anything, or have sex, as it can stir up the bleed and make it pop or increase the size. i gt mine from dancing a bit too hard at an elton john concert :/ there is also a sub forum on the topic, if you search hematoma you should find it xo

Hello, my daughter is 8 weeks pregnant but she was 5 weeks and 5 days when she went to the ER and had an ultra sound done because of cramping and bleeding. They told her nothing was wrong. But when she seen her obgyn Dr. We found out that the ultra sound showed my daughter has subchorionic hemorrhage. (Blood pocket next to the placenta. She has been bleeding every day for a week. The first day it was pretty heavy then it slowed down abit. But for this full week it has been maybe a half of a panty liner full of bright red blood but last night she had a Full panty liner full but this time it was dark blood hopefully old blood. She also has had cramping in her back and lower abdomen and pain. She is high risk because she is type 1 diabetic. Her obgyn Dr. Told her that subchorionic hemorrhage is more common than we think. She also told her to go to the ER if she's bleeding through 3 pads in one hour or of she is having a lot of pain. It worries me so bad! She goes in for another ultrasound on the 22nd of this month and then recheck with obgyn. With her first baby she was bleeding for two days but that was it. This one is so different.

I had a SCH (bruise) visible on my 6 and 8w scans, I was told to expect a bleed, but didn't bleed, and it was gone by my 13 week scan. Basically it will either bleed away bit by bit, or it will reabsorb and you may not bleed at all. :hugs:
