Has anyone had blood sugar testing/ monitoring without having a GTT? I had a GTT a few days before my daughter died at 27 weeks and also about the time my second baby died at 6 weeks. I'm nervous about the sugar highs/ lows I get from the GTT and the doctor is talking about doing one at 14 weeks and one at the regular time. Has anyone used something else in place of the GTT?

Seems like maybe you could just refuse the test and eat a GD friendly diet throughout your pregnancy (it's healthy anyway really) and if there were concerns at all then you could get a monitor and spot check your bloods after meals etc. Are you at a high risk for GD?

Yes, I'm high risk. I was already put on Glumetza because my sugars started going up after I lost my daughter. I don't want to not get the test and really need insulin though. I'll ask the MFM if I could just self check after meals/ fasting/ etc.

But if you refuse the test and just go with assumption that you should be managed as having GD then monitoring regularly with finger prick etc. will see you safe and they'll know from your readings (even better) whether or not you need to be medicated or if diet is working. The key is the monitoring. For most people they do the GTT because if you aren't having issues then you don't need the expense and bother of doing all the monitoring. Take care and fingers crossed all goes well for you hun.

I monitored from 9 weeks with my rainbow. Had gtt at 28 and failed it with my angel. Hoping to monitor from early on this time too x

They've put me on insulin already. I self monitor 4X a day, so don't think I'll be getting the GTT.
