I know this has been asked before probably but I am so scared. I have tried not to be overly cautious in this aspect. I am usually pretty laid back about most things so far but this starting finger foods has me stressed out. What would be the best size to cut up foods to feed a baby that has 2 front bottom teeth? I know it is not about the teeth but more about saliva and gumming the food.

BTW love the lists of finger food amazing idea!!!

Actually you are probably better with bigger chunks so lo doesnt just put the whole piece in their mouth.

I give large chunks of food so LO can grab it with his fist and gnaw on the top of it.

Can a big piece of the large chunks come off and he get choked?

i did pieces roughly the size of my little finger. x

Well we tried english peas, shreaded cheeses, and bananas last night and he did the best on the peas. I tried grape cut up but i cut it in half a pea size piece first and realized he was having problems with them with the skin on them (he gagged). So then I took the skin off of them and he was fine. he did make some funny faces to the sourness of the green grapes but was fine eating it. The banana was really ripe so I gave him half of one but when he was eating it he took a big chunk so I got scared and got it out of his mouth and mushed it in smaller pieces but he did not like the banana as well as the English peas.

My sitter suggested I get him some 3rd food veg. and motts apple sauce.

Just jugde the size of the piece. If he is not chewing it then think about whether it will get lodge if he swallows it whole.

We did a real mix, everything from mince to a whole banana. If you're doing BLW, it sounds like you're over-thinking it - it's about trusting your baby and his abilities. Have you read the BLW book? It's very reassuring. You could also take a first aid class - concentrate on knowing what you would do in the unlikely event that something went wrong rather than trying to control everything your baby eats. With BLW, the control is supposed to be with the child.

You will eventually get a feel for what is best for your baby. For example, as their pincer grip develops, they'll probably enjoy the challenge of picking up little things. At ten months my LO loves eating dry cereal, raisins and blueberries. I tend to cut his dinner into small pieces for him as he enjoys picking them up. At 7 months we were probably on smallish finger sized foods.

Honestly big chunks didn't work for us, I did smaller chunks that weren't big enough to get lodged. As with big things he bit too much off and did get it stuck. He gives it a good go now but preferse to give him littler chunks to pick up and just pop in. It's trial and error I think.

With bananas I wait until they're all yellow and no green, cut it into slices then into quarters, i wouldn't give Elodie grapes yet because of the skin, and I mash her peas up :haha: compared to me, you're doing fab! Try toast and thinks like that? I give Elodie finger sized pieces of toast, same with steamed carrot and broccoli and today she had sandwich fingers :)
