Hi ladies, hope you can put my mind at rest.

I have been giving my LO a unsalted whole wheat rice cake with cheese triangle spread on it for lunch. I think they are the laughing cow ones, not Dairylea. I've checked the contents but it's not really clear as to how much salt is in them. Do you think they are ok to give her? She doesn't eat a lot, I'm lucky if she sucks one small slice of a whole rice cake. :haha:

Thanks in advance :flower:

ITs fine hun, cheese is saltly and you can get unsalted/low salt cheese (i dont know where or what brand it is)

I have given Evie cheese triangles since about 7 months and as long as your LO has a low salt diet then its not a major problem as long as you get the balance right ;)

Its fine hun, we do everything in moderation (except things with glucose-fructose and MSG) lol

Thanks ladies! Its about the only thing she eats that is processed. Everything else is homemade without salt so like you said as long as everything else is low or non salted.
:-) xx

I'm very careful with salt and always read te back of anything I give Evie :haha:

For babies under 12 months the maximum salt intake per day is 1g and for over 12 months it's 2g

It would be fine in moderation but have you tried something like philadelphia (or own brand equivalent) instead? It is much lower in salt and a lot more natural than processed cheese. xx

We have to remember that some food products list sodium, not salt. It can be misleading because 1 part sodium is equal to 2.5 times salt. So if each triangle has 0.21g of sodium this means it has 0.63 g of salt. More info on the British Nutrition Foundation about this conversion https://britishnutrition.org.uk/hom...36&subSectionId=322&parentSection=299&which=2

I give my son cheese sometimes but ensure there is no or little other salt or sodium in his food the rest of the day. It's hard though since the triangles contain 2/3 of his daily quota.

As above ^ It keeps for ages as well.

The cheese is a blend of cream, milk and fresh and aged cheeses, particularly comté, which are pasteurized to stop the ripening process. Versatile and portable because of its pasteurization process, Laughing Cow can remain unrefrigerated for a limited length of time. The archetypal Laughing Cow cheese comes wrapped in the individual serving-sized foiled wedges, and they are packaged in a round, flat box.

Bought some today and then thought, CRAP can I EVEN EAT THIS??!!! YES, YES I CAN!!!!:happydance:
