Hi all. My daughter is nearly 9 (July) for the past few months I have noticed (and a lot of other people) that she smells very very strong of “BO”. I give her a shower / wash everyday and yet she still smells. The smell makes her clothes smell awful and the washing pile is getting huge. I am so worried about her at school! I really don’t want her to get picked on. I use to have strong body odour (and still do) even immediately after a shower. So I think she just takes after me but I got picked on a lot due to this. She also doesn’t seem to care about it and doesn’t think anybody notices.

She has body sprays, role ons etc...

Losing hope!!

Have you thought about trying an antibacterial antiperspirant for her? Sure make one that is meant to be good!

Off the top of my head I’m sure I’ve used one as somebody recommended it to me. I’ll go and buy another tomorrow. I used to use driclor from my gp (I need to start again) but it just makes you sweat from other places so it’s not really a “cure” and I don’t know if my daughter could use that anyway. X

I noticed my 6 Year old had body odour which first started about 18 months ago. I went to the doctors as I was concerned with her being so young & they just said to use a mild deodorant. I worry about other people noticing as it can be a really strong smell sometimes and I don't want her to think she smells too.

My husband says I should take her to the doctors but I don’t think it’ll help to be honest at that age. I bet when people smell her they must think I don’t wash her :(

Maybe look into diet. Some people are not able to process certain chemicals in food properly which causes BO. If that is the case cutting out those foods solves the problem.

Garlic and onions tend to come out in sweat if you use a lot of those in cooking. Red onions are milder smelling ...

Looks like I’ll be compiling a list of everything she eats and then start to cut things out one at a time! Thanks x

If you look it up I think you will find specific foods that tend to be a problem. I remember red meat, oranges and coffee being on the list. I assume coffee isn't the problem, lol.

Ha ha no we are safe on coffee!!

When I read up online about it milk was mentioned as a possible cause of it.

What a bummer. I sweat excessively, too. I was a late bloomer, so it was a little later than nine. I have two deodorants that work well for me, but I have to switch them occasionally. I use Ban solid until I can tell that it isn't working well anymore, then switch to Mitchum clear which works again, until it doesn't, so back to Ban. The laundry is tough, but if you've had the same issue, you probably know what fabrics work best for you. Cotton. Rayon. Nothing with a shiny sheen that shoes perspiration easily. White t-shirts just won't last as long as they do for others. I finally just learned to throw them out once they were yellow and buy t-shirts in deeper colors.

Hopefully this will be an easier thing than it was for you or me. Her attitude now will help. Worrying about it just made me sweat more and I find nervous sweat to smell worse. Hopefully you can her find that balance of caring enough to bathe often, but not caring so much that it becomes a worry to her. Knowing that it is a signal of growing up might help her to know that she is right on track!

Thanks Hun. It’s hard because she has to wear white for school so her tops are dwindling very fast.
