Im really scared incade ive harmed her:nope:

Hi my lo will be a month next week. My doctor actually suggested last week that I give him a little bit of cooled water in between feeds. She is a mum of three herself. I'm mainly breast feeding but give a little formula as well. This is my third baby and I have always done this. Not a lot but definitely if it's really warm weather. There is lots of information on the net and we sometimes scare ourselves to death. I have read babies not needing water if breast fed but I think it's personal choice. I do and will continue to give the odd little drink if I think he needs it. X

I'm sure your LO will be fine but if you're worried, get her checked out.

I'm really not sure why your doctor is suggesting to limit feeds. That just sounds really weird and not at all modern. I would disregard that - if your LO wants milk, give her milk. As far as I know, hungry baby milk is harder to digest so it's 'tricking' LO into feeling full even if she really does want the calories, so if you are using that and she is STILL hungry, I wouldn't hesitate to give more milk. Babies will not overeat unless there is a medical issue.

I wouldn't give water until LO is on solids. Scientists try really hard to get the balance of everything right in formula... it's kind of daft to think they'd forget to tell you to add enough water!

Hey whisper, Daniel has had 4oz of water at a time before and it did him no harm. I was also told to never limit feeds as babies have a lot of growth spurts and quite often need extra milk during these.

We are on 6 bottles a day of between 6 and 7 ozs so we are over the limit that the Doctor gave you.

Please don't believe everything that you read online, there are some really scary articles out there.

I would try not to worry at all.

Even now, at 16 months, we're still giving our son milk, regardless of the fact that he is having food. He is having even now around 24oz of milk with 3 meals and snacks and water to drink.

You have a growing little person to look after, they will eat a lot. Not only that, they can switch between eating lots and then very little.

I agree with what the others have said, don't worry about overfeeding if you have a truly hungry baby. If it was me, I think I personally would go back to the regular (not hungry baby) milk and feed that on demand. The hungry baby milks are just fully of fillers that make babies feel fuller without delivering any additional nutritional benefits. If your baby is hungry, it could be they are needing to have their nutritional needs met in a way that the hungry baby milk isn't doing. If this means feeding more, then that's okay. Also, this might sound like a daft question, but are you sure your baby is hungry? I think it's easy to sometimes mistake being upset or fussy for hunger. Sometimes babies just need to cry and have a cuddle rather than eat. But as the others have said, try not to worry. You aren't really supposed to give little babies water, but you haven't done any harm and you're LO will be fine.

Try not to worry about the water, I'm sure the advice re. Electrolytes is to do with giving a lot of water very regularly. A one off will be fine, my LO had 2oz water every other day for a few weeks at that age.

I would certainly get a 2nd opinion on not feeding more, it sounds quite outdated and as long as your LO's weight it healthy then I think we're encouraged to feed on demand? I hope you feel better about this soon.
