I'm looking to spruce my sons book collection again and am hoping for some suggestions. He can read a bit but I'm mostly thinking for bedtime stories which he absolutely loves.

Hiya, my dd is six and we recently started chapter books at night, so she gets a chapter or two of a longer book. She seemed to like this and can follow the stories easily. We started with my little pony and rainbow fairies books but soon moved on to Matilda etc. For Xmas she got the Roald Dahl box set and a few David walliams books.

Thanks scoobys mummy I think he's ready for chapter books...Does your dd have a favourite Roald Dahl books?

She liked Matilda but we haven't started the box set yet, she loves both Charlie and the chocolate factory movies and bfg so hoping to start those. I tried famous 5 but the language was a bit advanced for her, I'm thinking maybe next year. For books to read himself the hairy maclary range is fun.

Thanks I'll check out hairy maclary. Must get Charlie and the chocolate factory. We started with the magic finger which he liked and have fantastic mr fox next up x

If you are buying Hairy Maclary the Book People do a fab deal where you get 10 books for around a tenner. It comes in a lovely bag. My lo loves the set!! David Walliams books are fab. My lo loves Theres A Snake In My School and The First Hippo On the Moon.

At that age my DS loved the 'How to Train your Dragon' series for bed time reading.

I just bought hairy Maclary range for my ds2 for Christmas and all 3 of my boys love reading them. We also have lots of Julia Donaldson books and my ds1 loved the aliens love underpants type books at that age too.

My oldest isn’t a huge reading fan but for his 6th birthday we started him on the flat Stanley books which he’s enjoying so if your little one is moe enthusiastic it might be worth looking at
