Hi ladies. This is my first post in this section. Had my rather large 9lb 9oz boy on thursday morning. Just interested to see what amounts other babies feed. My lil man is taking 5oz's every 4 hours. Some people think it's too much so just wondered what everyone else's lo's take and how often. The way I look at it is he odviously wants it and is hungry so i'm not going to give him any less Xx

grace as 7lbs at birth and was taking 4 oz every 4 hours. Babies only take what they need. If he didn't need it he wouldn't take it. Tell those people they don't know what they're talking about!

My lo was 6lb 5oz at his weigh in last week, he's having 4oz every 3-4 hours but doesn't always drain the bottle x

mine was 7lbs 10oz at birth and 9lbs6oz now and has 4 oz every 3-4 hours but does not always finish it.

babies will puke up the milk they dont need- you might need that "hungry milk" later though!

his weight gain/loss over time will be the proof in the puding!

When Lucas was newborn he was taking 4oz every 3-4 hours. Definitely don't listen to people who say it's too much, he doesn't understand being greedy or anything so if he is taking it, he needs it x

Mine was 9lb 3oz at birth and while he was BF'd for the first week or so, the next week (back to birth weight) he took the same as yours. It's not too much! Newborns do not overfeed - they feed when hungry and stop when full. I used to get the same line from MIL (who had one 5lb baby!) but truthfully if you fed him too much, it would all come right back up!

4oz every 2-4 hours :)

I feed her when she is hungry really xx

At birth my LO weighed 7lb 8oz and she was pretty textbook with her eating. Now she's not; she is 4 months old, which they say the baby "should" be taking 35oz each day. Until recently she was taking 15oz (but very average weight and happy), and now she takes about 25oz, which is still under average, but she's still very content. She will take a bottle every 2-3 hours; we offer 5oz at each sitting, but most of the time she only has 2 or 3oz in each sitting, which is why she feeds more often. It's very very rare for her to wait until 4 hours.

We don't feed her during the night as she sleeps through.

ella is 11wks and does 5oz every 3hrs. Sleeps 10.30pm to 6.30am, no night feed. She has hungry baby at night.
If she wants more she has it.
Weight just under 12lbs, 7lb 3oz at birth.

Earl was 9lb6 and has one heck of an apetite. At his height at around 3.5 months he was eating/drinking 56oz a day in 7oz bottles!!

Really do try not to worry about how much you're feeding. A baby will only take as much as they need. From personal experience I would recommend feeding on demand can help you to assess if there are patterns to his hunger and if he needs more or less at certain times, rather than forcing a timetable onto yourselves.

Congratulations on your not-so-little man!

at that age my lo wastaking 4 ounces every 3 hours and at 2 weeks 5 ounces. then stayed on 5 ounces for ages went up 2 six for ages and hasnt long gone onto 7 ounces. it does even its self out in ther end xxx.

i had the midwifes saying just keep uping her bottles then i had a dr say she will go obeace so i couldnt win. so in the end i just gave her what she wanted and took no nottice of anyone else.

Isaac was 8lb at birth and was drinking 4oz every 4 hours until he was 6 weeks old. He then had 5 x 5 a day.

At 19 weeks, he has between 20-28oz a day.

We're demand feeding so it was never exactly 4 hours and would sometimes only be 3 hours between feeds.

Our day has gone like this so far:

5oz @ 07.30
3oz @ 10.30
5oz @ 14.00

It really does depend on your baby and yes, if a baby is hungry, the more they'll eat! If they're not they'll just throw it up ;)

Nicola xx

My lo weighed 7lb 5oz at birth and after 3 weeks of breastfeeding she was taking 4oz every 3-4 hours. She's now 10lb 3oz and takes 6oz every 3-4 hours.

As everyone else has said (and my midwife said to me) you can't really overfeed a baby, they will only take as much as they need or want so if your lo is taking all his bottle then just carry on doing what you're doing!

Xxx

Darcy was 7lb 10oz at birth. She would only take 1-2 oz in the first few days but quickly moved up to 4oz and by 5 weeks she was on 5oz. By week 7 she was on 6oz and still is - she's 13 weeks old now.
She has always fed every 3 hours in the day. Her daily totals have pretty much not changed since week 5 - she has 32oz. It's just over the weeks she started to take most of it in the day rather than spread over day and night. This week she has began to drain the 6oz bottles and is waking more at night so I suspect she is in some big growth spurt. Might consider moving her to a 4 hour feeding schedule and giving her 8oz bottles instead.
Your LO is not having too much - if he wants it then he needs it hun..xx

My LO was 8lb8 born and ate 4-5ozs every 1-3 hours, he just ate and ate and as he got older he gradually got longer between bottles. He is a big boy 99th percentile for weight and height so he needed all the milk and he was very rarely sick, he had that pattern through out the night too so it was so very hard!!. He is now on 4 bottles a day of 8ozs.
