Not using this to start a debate, but i was thinking (in advance, way in advance!)

since some hospital's (please check with your mw/hospital if unsure of your hospital policy) are now not providing formula to new mum's i no this is available by SMA:

https://www.boots.com/webapp/wcs/st...e=&categoryId=48885&langId=-1&catalogId=11051

however for baby no 2, i would most def want to use aptamil again like with maddi, so does anyone no if they do the same thing? i have read about cow and gate doing them too, but have only seen the sma one's on the shelves, and i believe this is what my hospital provided when i had maddi (though i was bf-ing at the time).

thanks guys! have been having my major plan ahead moments :dohh:

i found these for anyone who needs help with the topic!

really good if your using tommee tippee i would assume, we are MAM's people though :dohh:

only cow and gate have the glass bottles like that, i rang up aptimil and they said they have no plans to make glass bottles. which i thought was weird because they are the same company as cow and gate, have the same corrospondant address and same ingrediants??

thanks hon! how weird is that!! i might use them in hospital (eventually) and then switch too aptamil when we are home. have to stay in about 24hours as probably have a planned c-section this time. (look at me thinking about this  not even ttc )

Oh how weird.
My hospital gave me the glass bottles with Aptamil in when I had Ophelia so I wonder why you can't buy the glass bottles yourself?Bizarre.
xxx

so they do do them then? thanks for that jen! will be interesting to see if my hospital have stopped offering milk, which i believe they have x

When zane was in hospital afew weeks ago he was given a glass aptimal bottle as thats the only milk he drinks, so maybe they are only made for hospitals and not to be sold to the public.

This is a good thread to have made even tho in hospital i did bf n if i have another i will be bf again but i no others either cant bf or just dont want to and have no clue what goes on so its good the be prepared x

yep they do the glass ones in hospital for c&g, sma, farleys and aptimil . but only c&g and sma to buy yourself.

i dont see how hospitals can stop the milk though, its not right

but the argument is we get fed when we are in hospital, we get brekfast dinner and tea (although it is sh*te) so why cant our babies??

i know my hospital trust hasnt stopped giving milk out and has no intension of stopping in the near future so im ok.

Is it to encourage breastfeeding? I was never offered formula so just as well I was willing to give BFing a go!

i think they are doing it to just try n get more mothers to bf for atleast the time they r in hospital.

i agree they proberly are but isnt that taking away maternal choice??

thats like saying we are taking away diamorphine because we want more people to use gas and air because its better ?

its proberly just masked as try to get more people to breastfeed but really is just to do with the amount of money they will save.

Why are they not offering formula anymore?

They say it promote bottle feeding, as that period of time is usually the hardest for breast feeding, a tired mum is more likely to reach for a bottle if its easily available than if its not, also heard stories about mw taking baby in the night and giving a bottle when mum is breast feeding. I am not saying these are my thoughts and feelings just the reasons I was given.

The hospital I was at with my youngest (14 months) had already adopted this policy when I had her, I was breast feeding but took the little glass sma bottles with me cos I didnt want to be under too much pressure.

yes its more then likely to save money but they do try n get people to atleast try bf but for the people like a friend of mine who cant actualy bf its not fair

the thing is they will all have to have a stash somewhere, because what if you get a baby with really low blood sugars that needs topping up straight away!! or a mum who is adement (?sp) she does not want to breastfeed at 2am then what do you do with the baby tell the mam to go to the local asda??

im glad my hospital is staying the way it is!

i think if the hospital they will be going to will not supply milk the mw will have to inform the mother to be so she is prepared to take her own milk in.

but in the case of a ill baby the hospital will have milk for them and just not for the mothers who can but arent bf

if a mum can't bf for medical reasons they will HAVE to have milk in

anyway back to topic, i was told my ospital only did sma or cow and gate too, if you wanted aptamil you had to take your own in

i used aptamil in the glass bottle in hospital, but u cant buy them x

Those steri bottles are mega fast flowing teats. Liss has issues now so don't think very good for newborns. just a FYI

My hospital had a massive selection, in a huge cupboard you just went helped yourself. I don't get why its only SMA that sell them in shops.
