Ok so.....

Which bottles are good bottles? I see so many differant kinds, shapes and sizes of bottles I don't know what to choose.

I plan to breast feed but will need to bottle it when I return to work and probably will supplement with formula as needed.

See regular bottles, bottles with inserts in then for pre packaged milk, bottles with angles in the little bottles, tall bottles....

Any recommendations?

I think that you will get many different opinions but it seems each LO might like a different bottle and nipple. If you plan on buying a breast pump it might be a good idea to get bottles that go with your pump, so you can hook everything altogether. If you plan on doing powdered formula you need a bottle that will tolerate being shaken (not with plastic drop ins). If you plan on nursing & bottle feeding a low flow nipple is important too. I have heard good things about the Tomee Tippee bottles on these boards but not sure if it is just brand name hype!

We bought a few to go with the breast pump (Avent Duo Electric) so Avent brand. They make nipples for newborn, 1 month, 3+ months; I have heard to use the lowest flow/youngest month nipple that LO will take so you can still encourage breastfeeding. If the flow is too fast sometimes they will refuse to nurse. I havent opened them yet, and I figure I will wash a couple and see how LO likes them. That way atleast I can always exchange them for other ones if he doesnt like them. Since you plan on nursing to start maybe just start with a couple and see what you decide you like!

what would be best for you and LO. i got tommy tippee ones, as there the 'best' etc and my LO hated them! so went onto avent, they were not helping with his wind so got Dr Brown bottles and to me and LO they are the best x

I'd just buy one, maybe in a couple of different brands, and then you can try them out with LO before buying more. They're expensive so it would be a shame to waste money on something LO doesn't like.

When are you planning to start on bottles btw? If you still want to BF without nipple confusion, it's usually considered best to wait until LO is 6 weeks old+ so it's really not something you have to think about for a very long time yet! If you're wanting to spread the cost by buying early, I'd just put some money aside for later rather than buying now.

With Molly I spent an absolute fortune trying to find a bottle Molly would 'take' to. I tried Avent, Tommee Tippee, Dr Browns, and loads of others. In the end the last ones we tried were Boots own make. My advice would be just buy one simple kind and stick with it.

We tried the Tommee Tippee ones first and they were ok, but when we had to go onto staydown formula, the bottles weren't big enough (the powder sits on the top until it's mixed in - it doesn't sink like some others) so we switched to Dr Browns and they're great.

I did use the Tommee Tippee ones while i was still breastfeeding, and Sophie had no trouble switching back and forward between BF and bottlefeeding - she never got confused. x

I use Tommee Tippee ones as an add on to my breast feeding. I have the automatic breast pump and the manual one. The manual one is faster, but the auto one is gentler. Midwives will suggest that you go for a vari flow teat as this closely mimics the naturel flow of breast milk. However my little one gulped his through a vari flow teat and it gave him terrible colic, since then I have him on slow flow teats and he still breasts feeds well and has had no 'nipple confusion'.

Hope this helps.

xx

I tried tommee tippee, bornfree, nuk, dr browns and in the end went to Avent and never looked back, NUK we good when they were really small though.

I had tomme tippee and avent for DS first time round. My OH preferred tommee tippee and I preferred avent. Eventually I phased out using tommee tippee and this time I have bought all new avent bottles as preferred them and also found there breast pump tp be much better. But also I had a few of the smaller tesco bottles and they were good aswell.

in my opinion i like a brand called MAM they claim to be anti colic, but i liked them because the bottom comes apart for cleaning. i thought they were the most hygeneic of the bottles out there. that being said i didnt do any research into any other types of bottles. and i got them when my first LO was about 6 months for when i started expressing milk. then when my next LO came along i was sure to get the same type again because i liked them. i will be doing the same this time round. however i dont see many poeple with them i find i usually see most mums using the tommee tippy type.
Im sure you will find a bottle which suits you. go with what you prefer tho :)

We use Tommee Tippee anti colic bottles. I'm BFing and expressing for OH to do some feeds. LO took to the TT bottles at a week old and we have had no problems with bottle or breast feeding.

All 3 of mine used Playtex disposables (drop ins) and they can be shaken just as vigorously as any other bottle (for powdered formula). They are great! I would never consider any other bottle. :).
