Hello all

Some honest opinions, please!

I've always loved the name Oliver but it was no1 last year, I know a few through groups with my 2.5 year old and my beat friend has a 12 to son with the name (although they live in a different country) so I'm going off it a little. Also, most of those I know are called olly and I don't really like that and am beginning to see it's an inevitable thing as he hits school.

So we are now considering the name Xavier. Thoughts? I like it - I'm worried it's in the same group as names like Chardonnay and jaxson though??? Our lg is called Sadie which I like because it's not overused but isn't a crazy made up name and I'm looking for something similar for a boy.

Next question is re best sounding pronunciation. We live on an island between England and France so would go for English or French pronunciation without sounding pretentious (I think). Which do you prefer the sound of?

1. Zay-vier
2. Za-vee-air (more like the a in cat)

I like 1 because it sounds like Oliver but 2 because he could be called Xavi for short.

I really dislike it when people pronounce it with extra 'X' at the beginning (sorry if that offends anyone) as to me, x is phonetically the same as z (as in xylophone, xenophobia, xerox, xanthe, etc) at the beginning of a word so "ecks-zay-vier" isn't in the running

Thank you.xx

I def like Xavier and I def like choice number one!

I like the name Xavier, it is not super popular & is still a lovely sounding name. I like option 1.

I would naturally use the French pronunciation. I'm British living in England, but I do speak French so it may be that.

I like it, but pronounced 1 (which is how I would pronounce it) it sounds very similar to Sadie. I agree Oliver is very common though and that would put me off personally as I prefer things that are a bit different without being totally wacky. Good luck with your choice, boys names are hard! X

I love Xavier. It was in my top 5 - DH nixed it.

I love Xavier pronounced Zay-v-er it was in my short list but opted for roman instead. Xx

It's a really nice name - love your 1st pronunciation option and Xavi as a nickname!

(Although I do have to admit - i'm from the US and have only heard it pronounced ex-A-vee-er)

Love It, great name though I'd pronounce it X-avier (as Ruby pointed it), but that's just me.
