How do you tell the diff between braxton hicks, early labour contractions and just bad trapped wind?

As lastnight i woke up at 2am and every 5mins i had this like crampy stabbing pain going across my stomach like fading in, and fading out if that makes sence and also my stomach/bump would harden at the time then go normal, it lasted about 20-30mins, but i let out some wind  and it then seemed to stop as i then managed to fall asleep and it had gone when i got up this morning. I've only had this once before and that was at 9 weeks preg so lastnight i kind of knew it was just trapped wind but at the same time i wasn't sure but left it to see how long it lasted.

I'm guessing BH and early labour contractions kind of feel the same?

I think the early labour contractions will be painful, whereas braxton hicks are more uncomfortable. I find that a braxton hicks hurts if I need the loo, either no1 or no2 :haha: or if I'm feeling gassy  but once I've been to the loo or whatever then they just go back to being uncomfortable.

I think with early labour they'll hurt, you may get period type pains and lower back pain... And the contractions will be irregular then become closer together and more regular.

Could have just been random contractions but to me it sounds like braxton hicks and wind

I have these feelings quite often! Tbh with the hardening of your bump it does sounds like BH, but as the releasing of wind helped the pain it could have just been the trapped wind as you say!!

I thought I haD trapped wind last week when I kept getting stomach pains but it turned out I had a water infection, so i would say if the pain continues get checked out at the doctors coz a water infection at this sage can be quite serious xxx

I'll see if it happens again, as the last time it happend i was 9 weeks preg and had nothing like it again until lastnight, but i didn't have the harding bump then. i don't think it could be an infection as i had to re-do a urine sample lastweek and it came back clear, but i've got my 28 week midwife appointment on thurs so she'll prob do another urine test.

I thought the same re the urine infection coz midwife tested me on weds and by Saturday I was in agony with the pains! But the 28wk tests will tell u for definite.

Hope the pains subside soon :) xx
