Hello

I'm just after some ideas. Sophie is a nightmare when it comes to eating breakfast....I guess maybe she just isn't a breakfast eater - DH and I are not great at eating breakfast till we have been up for ages, but you know how everyone goes on about the importance of breakfast....

I don't so much mind on days when we can stay in - she will pick at bits of fruit or crackerbreads, sometimes a bowl of cereal without milk just to eat by hand etc through the morning but she can seriously go on picking at it till lunchtime and I'm lucky if she eats much of it. It does worry me if we have to go out and she refuses to eat. I do take things out with me but I'd rather she ate a proper breakfast.

Last week we were on holiday with my parents, and she would sit on my mum's knee and have bits of whatever my mum was eating....eg she would have a couple of spoons of porridge, a couple of bites of bread with honey on it, and maybe a bit of kiwi and then a bit of my dad's toast and a bit of his orange but this week she is back to her old habits. She won't sit with me like that.

Does anyone have any ideas I could try? Or is it not that big a deal if she at least grazes on something through the morning? I just worry about when she goes to school - I wouldn't want her going out on an empty stomach. She is pretty good with her other meals but can have picky days - some days she will eat next to nothing, then the next day she can't get enough to eat! Is all this normal? xxxxxx

Do you eat breakfast at the same time? I'm really not a brekkie person either, but it used to be easier to get jacob to eat it if I was eating too. I guess it's fine for now...but as she gets older you don't really want her going to school and being hungry etc...that said, it may just pass over time..i'm a big believer in just not making a big deal out of food..make her breakfast and if she just manages a bit, then i'd leave her to it.

I don't know if it's 'normal' or not...but i'm exactly the same as your daughter haha, some days I wont eat much..other days I don't stop. Am definitely a grazer as well, and can go on picking at things for aggggesss...it hasn't done me any harm, so i'd try not to worry, especially if there's no problems with other meals. xx

I quite often give my ds cut up fruit to dip in a bowl of yoghurt - he loves getting his hands messy dipping the fruit in so if ur lo was enjoying it she may eat? xx

Thank you :) I do eat at the same time as her, I find she eats much better if we sit at the table together. We actually had some success this morning, although it was the strangest breakfast I've ever seen :haha: She asked for soup, toast and honey. I had some homemade soup in the freezer so I defrosted that and made her some toast and honey - thought she'd eat them separately, but no, she sat and dipped the toast and honey into the soup  She ate the whole lot and kept telling me it was yummy!! Then she asked for a banana "in its jacket" (which is her way of saying in its skin rather than cut up and put in a bowl!) and ate most of that too!! Yay.

I think the fruit dipped in yogurt idea sounds good, I'm sure she'd love that!

xx
