anyone doing both?

turns out that the little man is a little lazy at the boob so I would be sitting in a chair for over an hour and a half feeding him just to have to supplement him formula.

so now, I am pumping as much as I can but on the days I am out I am giving him formula.

Any tips for schedules? could I alternate between the two or should I just stay with giving him the breast milk when it is pumped and give formula when I need to catch up?

anyone know if this can be bad for him?

Thanks!

Yeah I've just started or about a week and a half doing both as she is 6 weeks old and needs more than I can produce so I'm feeding her breast milk late evening and overnight and formula during the day.So far it's working out great as I'm not pumping every 2 hours like I was before and little one doesn't notice any taste difference and is more satisfied and content.I felt so guilty at first but then I thought well she is getting best of both and getting what she needs. It's working out best for both of us. She was slighty constipated with the change around at first but now her bowels seem to be fine.Hope that helps:0)

thats what i was thinking of doing.
night time using the breast milk and day time use the formula!
great idea!

:hugs:
Don't feel guilty...I should say it to myself, but we are doing the best we can! :hugs:

I pump for my LO (had wanted to breast feed but just couldn't after my section and lots of other things that happened) I am nearly meeting his demands now, but have to give a bottle of formula once every 24-48hrs if I haven't got enough breast milk.

All the reading I have done suggests that it is fine to supplement and we have had no problems so far.

i feed but supplement him with a formula bottle at his last feed and have given him a bottle when i needed to in the past if i was tired and not producing enough. I've also given him bottles when out and about if need be. i always try to limit him to one bottle a day as your body slowy adapts and will produce less milk, supplying only enough for the feeds you regularly do by breast. so you will find that if you only feed during the night, after a little while, you probably won't have much during the day if you ever need it.

oooo jaylene we have something in common, i'm expressing most of Rhys's feeds he's a guzzler, i've been trying to express every 2-3 hours i set my alarm, i feed 3 oz of breast milk in the day when he needs which is roughly every 3 hrs, he had 2 formula feeds in the night 1am and 4am and breakfast 6am which was my milk and he slept till 10am.
i'm going to keep doing it till it all runs out,
its not bad for him at all, i was so relieved when i admitted to my mw i dreaded feeding Rhys and when he woke i would cry as i knew what was coming, she said express lots of girls do it and they do it well just need to keep on and on pumping telling your brain to produce more and not get engorged as that then tells the brain to calm the production lol. i'm house bound for 6 weeks anyway and craig is working so have it gives me something to do while he's asleep.

i had massive guilt that i couldnt and he couldnt breast feed he just cried when i tried him near me the suck like a mad man for a minute and delatch we'd go on like that for ages seemed he couldnt get his chin forward enough and were tongue tied bless..
he's like a different baby now and i've stopped crying and so has he.
as long as they put on weight i dont think it really matters which order the milk comes in its whatever is easiest for you.
love it now we're talking baby stuff.. how exciting...

he's a beauty jay
luff you

I am so glad we are in the same boat for the most part. I was feeling really low and closterphobic BFing him, and since Chris is not home at all during the day I felt a lot of pressure as I was the only person able to feed him and do EVERYTHING else for him. So now, I am trying to pump for night feeds and giving him formula during the day.

So much to go through in such a little amount of time makes a girl rather depressed....if we are happy then the boys will be happy, that's what I think anyway.

Love you too!!
Rhys is a gem!
