Thought I would call upon you ladies for some breast pump advice.....

I have read in every magazine and book that electric pumps are the way to go. My plan is to breastfeed solely for the first couple of weeks and then express so OH can join in with the feeding and combine bottle with boob.

I haven't bought bottles or anything yet but I have been offered a Tommee Tippee steriliser from my SIL so logic tells me to get the bottles to fit. I was going to get an Avent electric pump and bottles and sterliser but this plan has gone out the window now I've got a free steriliser coming my way. Not that I am complaining mind!

Anyway, question is, for all you pumpers out there, can you recommend a good electric breast pump?

Many thanks!

i have an avent isis hand pump, its ok but its alot of hard work. i express twice a day so that i can 'bank'' milk in the freezer so will be investing in an electric pump when i have the money.

I have both the Avent Isis hand pump and theMedela mini electric. They're both good. At the moment I'm using the hand pump again, but that can all change overnight, depending what mood I'm in!!

I have a Tommee Tippee hand pump and i find it really easy to use, not tried an electric pump so cant reccomend hon but i think if your milk comes easily then a hand pump is very easy to use and alot cheaper too xx

I have a Medela electric pump (brief case style), it is so worth the money (of course, mine is borrowed from my sister ). If I had to buy a pump, I would definatley go electric (less hassle). I can feed Peyton and pump at the same time (major time saver).

Thanks girls. Shame it's not something you can try before you buy

I also have a tommee tippee hand pump, and I express once a day in the morning because most of your milk is produced between 1am and 5am - so can get the most out then!

I haven't tried an electric pump - and didn't want to pay out for one to begin with, as wasn't sure whether it would be worth it. I would keep an eye out for offers on electric pumps - i know Sainsbury did have a 1/3 off all of their baby products the other day...

A hand pump would be fine for once/twice daily use, i used one exclusivly pumped for LO for 4 weeks...it was hard work with a hand pump...but i had wrists like a 14 year old boy afterwards!!

all the tt closer to nature bottles fit on the pump

I have a tommee tippee hand pump and a medela mini electric. Started with the handpump which was good but I got frustrated. Now I use the electric all the time. I think it was a great investment!

I exclusively pumped for 4wks as my daughter is tube fed, so unable to breastfeed. I started by using a tommee tippee hand pump but it didn't work for me. I got in touch with a breastfeeding co ordinator and she said the better one is the avent one. I was fortunate enough to be loaned a double electric madela breast pump and it was so much easier, i also used a hospital adela pump which made me really sore.

If i was you i would wait and see how your breastfeeding goes, you are advised not to start expressing to soon. When your ready you could then get your pump. If your budget stretches i'd go for an electric one.

Also last time we had a tomee tippee microwave steriliser and used dr brown bottles. So avent ones might fit.

Great advice thanks Bex. Its good to know as well that other bottles can go in the Tommee Tippee sterliser, esp Dr Brown as from what I have read these are supposed to be excellent.

PS your mini santa is gorgeous!

I have got a Medela Swing electric pump which is great and I can highly recommend it. They are expensive but loko out for deals in boots. I got 25 % off mine plus £10 worth of points for spending over £50 on one of the special weekends and also the points themsoelve so it cost about £57 instead of £90 x

Hi
I use the Avent electric breast pump thankfully my sil lent me hers so that was cheap but I have heard you can loan them? not sure where from though! I have an avent sterliser and I use dr browns bottles and they fit to be honest I have a tommee tippe sterliser at my dads for when I visit and you can usually fit all different type bottles in any sterliser so don't make that your only reason on which breast pump to get hun x

I have a tt hand pump and thats great, but i'm waiting on hv to sort me an electric pump out to hire.
