Breastfeeding 6 months plus

Still going stromg with Morgandie at 17 months. She tried biting occasionally through teething, but not badly. Just a bit of gentle pressure with her teeth....not enough that I yelled or it hurt badly and left marks, but enough that I took her off and didn't put her back on for an hour or so, to discourage it again.

After that you just watch for the muscles at the back of the jaw start to tighten to indicate they are using the jaw not the tongue, and get your little finger in quick!

BTW the top teeth are the only problem....bottom teeth never because the LO needs to cover their own lower gum and teeth with their tongue in order to breastfeed.

It's been a while ladies!! How is everyone. Glad to see most of you are still going! My supply seems to have dropped a bit but I think that was my fault for missing two of my pumping sessions yesterday and the day before. Hopefully I can bring it back by sticking to my schedule...

My LO is on solids now, cereal in the mornings, a fruit at lunch and a vegi in the evenings.

I asked my doc about giving my LO juice and he said no...not until she is almost 10 months!!! Did you all wait that long... I was hoping to replace one of her milk feeds with diluted juice !

don't think you can replace a milk feed by juice as juice does not contain the necessary nutritions for your LO.

we are still breastfeding @ 9 month :happydance:

Juleika had a phase were she didn't eat much solids anymore, but now she starts to eat again.

not sure, if I ever can drop any feed :baby:

Hey Mickey, yeah I asked the pediatrician and he said no..... no juice for quite some time. But My lil one is starting to eat more solids now so I don't pump as often which has made things sooo much easier.

By the way, she has two teeth now, the bottom two!!! And they scared me as they were coming through but she has yet to bite or nip me so no complaints here. I just make sure that she is feeding whens he is on me and not just playing around with my nipple.

How is everyone doing near the end of summer?

the world health organization recomends bfing for 2 years.
the first 6 months they say should be only breast milk, and then solids and breast milk up to 2 years of age.
i will be going to atleast 1 year if i can, though i may reasses this once he has teeth! that scares me a little..

My daughter 'tried' her teeth out a little through teething, but its a habit that is easily quoshed. They never really bite (the botttom gun never comes near the nipple) more just a bit of pressure by the sore gum. I just removed her from the breat and kept her off for the next 15 minutes. They soon learn.

If you are worried that they may shift position and bite, just watch for the muscles tightening at the back of the jaw. That shows lower jaw movement, something thats not needed for correct breastfeeding.

I've never come across any instance of broken skin, unless the nipple was already sore and cracked through wrong positioning or latch.

Good to see there are a few extended breastfeeders still around. My daughter still enjoys a bf at 18 months and we're TTC again. I am just letting her feed when she wants now, as opposed to 'pushing' it on her. Only problem is she has a habit of grabbing my top and yelling "boobie" in a loud voice everytime we're out in public!

 that is soo funny. My mother keeps telling me that my son's first word is going to be 'booby' if I keep saying it to him all the time like I do.

well Bren is 4 months on Monday, and we are doing just fine with BFing and I plan to keep going as long as I can!

I'm excited that I'm so close to the 6 month mark, I would really love to make it to the year mark. Everything is going great so far, I'm even getting more milk when I pump at work.

Good for you....just keep going! I think that one of the keys to successful breastfeeding is enjoying it!

we are @ 10 month now :happydance:

Juleika has her bottom two front teeth and she doesn't bite :baby:

I call the booby "millivanilli" now, that she will not call it booby in public later on ;)
