breastfeeding in hospital [RANT]

totally agree with you and they do need some serious re training midwives! I have met about 3 in anti natel that parised me and more than double that that thought I was doing wrong especially since I am pregnant. I was so upset a few weeks ago at one who asked me "who the hell toldyou you could breastfeed while pregnant" and she gave off to me. She shut up when I mentioned LLL then accused me of starving my baby i havnt had yet on top of saying why I didnt have my notes which was social serves or domestic voilence etc I said this to midwives in hospital as I wanted to know why to and was handed my notes and now I have my notes ! she was so rude about everything never mind breatsfeeding. And an African doc gave me the biggest dirtiest look and said "omg" in shock when I said I breastfed my son. Talk about feeling like i was doing something wrong! Its not on. Its so important to breastfeed a baby I think yet its treated like this in this day and age,. And it makes me sad the way some mums just rebel because they dont like being told what to do, but thats not how it is no one tells you to breastfeed for them its for your baby. But stubbornness takes over and the baby gets none because the mum dosnt want to just because its her choice. Formula should never be a first choice sadly it is. Its for mums that cant breastfeed and originally for babies who where orphans.

i wonder what they will say dragonfly when your OH brings W in and W wants a feed lol i wish i could be there to see their faces lol
hope baby arrives soon.

i havent been back to my HV since she told me i would need to wean early and start him on FF at the same time even though my boy is off the height and weight charts for his age being solely BF and blw'ed

Probably the same as the last silly midwife "but how are you going to feed two babies?" :dohh:

I would have pulled out both boobs and said, you can count can't you? Two boobs for Two babies!

Isn't it sad/scary that a "young mum" is wiser and more up to date about breastfeeding than the medical professionals???

Kudos to you I say! Sorry you were landed at such a stupid hospital.... Maybe stay at home "next time", eh? ;)

I entend to. I know my body can handle a natural no med delivery now no thanks to my stupid hospital

what on earth. what hospital is this at? If you like I can help you write a letter of complaint - that is completely unacceptable, inappropriate and illegal behaviour by the hospital staff.

This is awful! I can't believe a hospital would have this attitude!!

I must admit, the hospital I had Hannah at was really pro BF which was lovely. They were always there to offer help and advice, even in the middle of the night. They even had a feeding room with a TV and comfy chairs if you wanted a change of scenery. There was a young mum in the bed opposite me who was having real problems getting her LO to latch on, she wanted to use bottles instead but in the end with the help of 3 nurses they managed to help her get the right position and she was so happy.

Get that letter of complaint in, I find that attitude totally disgusting.

St helier in surrey.
I aint the only person to be treated like it either thats another thing that pissed me off n it was my community mw that told me it after seeing 9 other mothers 4 of them said similar to me so even shes put a letter of complaint in against the mw's on the mat wards

..wow. That's an absolute joke. I'd seriously consider writing to your MP about that hun. Defo not on.

My local MP happened to be the only woman I know to have breastfed she had a baby not so long ago and I was talking to her about it and she went through the same thing I did in my hospital! No help, just told your doing it wrong and no one shows you how just is cheeky and ignores you. I am not the only one and same happened with a friend who delivered years ago, all of us discharged ourselves early through lack of help., This time I will be complaining about it should it be the same as last time which I suspect it will be.
