I had my daughter 6 days ago, and she weighed 5lb 14oz so she's a little dot!

I'm just a little unsure about the timings of her feeds. At the moment, we're going between 3-4 hours between feeds, and she'll feed for 10-15 minutes, before she'll fall asleep on my boob, lol :baby:

Is this ok? With her being so small I just tend to worry about her not getting enough!!!!

hey hun that sounds bout right to me...i was feeding every hour os so for 10mins each time so urs sounds brill :) well done xx

How many wet and dirty nappies is she having?

"How often should baby be nursing?

Frequent nursing in the early weeks is important for establishing a good milk supply. Most newborns need to nurse 8 - 12+ times per day (24 hours). You CAN'T nurse too often—you CAN nurse too little.

Nurse at the first signs of hunger (stirring, rooting, hands in mouth)—don't wait until baby is crying. Allow baby unlimited time at the breast when sucking actively, then offer the second breast. Some newborns are excessively sleepy—wake baby to nurse if 2 hours (during the day) or 4 hours (at night) have passed without nursing. Once baby has established a good weight gain pattern, you can stop waking baby and nurse on baby's cues alone."

Congratulations :-)

About timing....your baby could be at the breast for a 2 hour stretch but if she is not removing milk from your breast it's a waste of time. Or she could be on for 10 minutes, drink effectively adn come off full and satisfied :-) The thing to know to reassure yourself is how to know if she is drinking at the breast or just sucking! If you watch the following video clip you will be able to see what good drinking looks like

Combine this knowledge with plenty of wet diapers, a content baby and you can be confident she is doing great :-)

Aww congrats on your little daughter!

As the other girls have said....if you can feel her getting the milk out rather than just comfort sucking (I'd describe it as a sucking and swallowing rather than just a gentle 'fluttery' feeling).....then I think she and you are doing great. Also, I think if she is snoozing on the boob and seems satisfied, then you can give yourself a pat on the back!!

I would watch more for her diapers right now than looking at the clock, unless she is going more than 4 hours before nursing. You may find in the next few days she starts to nurse more frequently as well. A baby has their first big growth spurt starting around 7-10 days.
