Hi I was wondering if anyone had been to a breastfeeding workshop at their hospital? I've got mine in a couple weeks time and just curious about what it involves and if its useful.. thanks x

I went to mine and it was pretty good. They basically go through the BF technique, how it works and they showed how to hand express, showed different products available eg breastpumps and told us what to expect over the first few weeks, i found it helpful

Yes, there was a three week course at a local children's centre which I attended. I found it really useful. They showed us a video on feeding, showed us how to hand express using a dummy and just allowed us to ask questions. They were really good afterwards and accepted visits from any mummies having feeding problems. Poppy and I went along a couple of times to get advice.

I went to a local BF meeting at my hospital and fond it very helpfull. It wasn't so much a 'this is how to do it' but more a chance for other bf mums to meet up and share experiences and such. There was a trained bf counciler on hand at every meeting who was more than happy to help if you wanted her to, otherwise it was a chance to relax and meet other bf mums.
I have fond another meeting closer to me this time and will be going there just before bump is due to meet everyone and hopefully be able to support any other new mums there. I really think they are a great help and worth going along to.

One of our antenatal classes was on BF, and there was a trained BF counsellor there who is herself a BF mum. Answered any questions we had, and then introduced us to other mums (and some dads :) ) and their babies in the local BF support group called Bosom Buddies. They meet weekly, and it's a chance to socialize and discuss any issues. Have been going weekly since that antenatal class when I was about 35 weeks along; it was great to get to know the other mums before Alyssa was born, so that I didn't feel shy going to the group and asking questions once I was actually BF.
