Hi Girls,

I am currently 37 +6 weeks pregnant and on Monday I found out my baby is breech. Yes the little one is sat bum down with its legs up and feet by its shoulders! Not a position I fancied trying to deliver. The Dr told me an ECV was not likeley to be successful therefore I am now booked in for a C section next Wednesday at 38 +6. :help:

So..... I am scared out of my wits! I am worried about the spinal block and if I will feel anything. I had already packed by bag for a natural labour, now I am not sure if what I have packed is right i.e. I assume my wound will be sore and need loose clothing? :coffee:

I want to breast feed but I am not not sure if I will have milk with baby being born before body is ready for it therefore do I need formula?

Will I still bleed down below? I have maternity pads but I honestly am clueless when it comes to a ceasarean!

This is my fist baby and I am in a head spin :wacko:any help would be greatly recieved.

Thanks[/I][/I] :flower:

I'm stalking this post...I found out yesterday baby is breech!! Seeing the consultant on monday to book my c-section and I had planned up until yesterday, everything for a natural birth!!

Hi Ladies im joining this thread aswell :) I am 38 weeks tomorrow with first baby, hospital tried to perform ECV last friday but babies feet were in the way, so I am going in this Friday again to have another ECV performed. I have my C-section booked for 24th September @ 39+4 if baby doesnt move.

I totally understand your fears and I've asked a lot of questions in the third trimester forum, a lot of people have comforted me and told me c-section isnt all as bad as we think it will be :) xx

Hi hun

With a spinal block all you will feel is tugging n pulling. It shouldnt be painful.
Yes you will still be able to breastfeed straight away.
You will still need pads as you will bleed down below.
Erm as for clothing yes loose clothing is a god send and top tip is big granny knickers lol so they dont rub the wound. ( i found them strangly comfortable after my last section)
Good luck

I had to have a csection, just to reassure you theres nothing to be scared about i cant even remember the injection going in and within seconds i was completely numb within 5minutes she was then born i honestly only felt abit of pulling happening it was a weird slightly uncomfortable feeling but i didnt feel any pain at all, i was happy and talking to my partner all the way through the birth, you do need very loose clothing as i found out i took pj bottoms that were quite tight as i planned a natural birth and they was really uncomfortable, as for the knickers you just keep them high above your wound you honestly dont care how much of a granny you look or how much camel toe you have lol

Hi my son was breech and i also had my section at 38+6

You do need loose clothes and big pants, i still wear loose clothes and big pants now as anything that sits on the scar irrates it and is uncomfortable.

you still bleed afterwords, i bled for 10weeks. but it is unusual to bleed that long.

and you will still be able to breastfed, your milk comes a couple days after the birth. god luck

My baby was breech in that same position. I had a planned C-section for the 10th which turned into an unplanned one on August 30th. My water broke and I went into labor, I was terrified of having the section. Don't be scared, I know easier said than done. I labored for about 13 hours before we did the section so I was having contractions when they were trying to put in the medications for the surgery. My thought during that process was PLEASE let this lady get that in there between contractions, she did and it was wonderful. So I would imagine that if you are not having contractions it will be a lot better and they will have a easier time getting it all in there. It pretty much worked instantly. The overall process wasn't bad at all nothing like I expected, they tell you that you will feel pressure and stuff like that and you do, but at least for me it wasn't bad and hardly noticeable. Before I knew it my baby was there it probably took less than an hour from the time they took me back to the time he was here. The stitching up was the longest part.

As for being sore, I wasn't terribly sore afterward. I stayed in the hospital gown while at the hospital because it was comfortable. They had me sitting up 6 hours afterward and walking 12 hours later. It does take a bit to walk just because it feels strange. They let me breast feed right away my milk came in before I left the hospital so about 2-3 days afterward. The bleeding isn't terrible either like a really, really heavy period so make sure you have the pads. My hospital had them for me so it was really nice.

You will want to make sure that you have something you can wear above the incision at least that is what I found comfortable, even if it looked silly having my pants pulled up to my belly button. :) The hospital also provided some very unfashionable underwear but I recommend them if they have them that way you don't ruin yours. It has now been two weeks and I honestly don't even feel like I had a surgery even the scar is pretty small and not as gross as I thought.

Best of Luck to you!!

I felt the same way. I had no intention of having a c-section and was clueless about it. I wasn't even 30 weeks, so I hadn't even had time to read about c-sections and learn what goes on.

With my spinal, all I felt is tugging. It was uncomfortable, but not painful. The worst part was when they had to push baby down because she was up high. They had to push on my chest really hard to get her down so they could get her out. They only had to do that though because baby was only 2 pounds.

In the hospital, I wore the gown for the first 2 days and then changed into my own clothes for the third and fourth day. I just wore the mesh underwear that they gave me with loose track pants and a t-shirt. My wound was sore and it made it hard to move around, but each time I got up, it got better. I had my c-section on a Tuesday at 1pm and by Thursday morning I was walking around. Most people (from what I have heard) will walk around earlier, but I had magnesium sulfate and wasn't allowed to get up for 24 hours after.

I was told it could take up to 5 days for my milk to come in because I had my baby at 29+5, had pre-eclampsia, hyper tension and a few other problems. I had milk about a day and a half later. Nurses and the lactation consultant were quite surprised.

As for the bleeding, I had barely any until I stood up. When I stood up for the first time, that is when I started bleeding. I used maternity pads for a few days while I was in the hospital and then switched to regular pads. I bled for about 11 days after and it was barely any at all after the first like 5 days. From what I understand, that is rare though and most people bleed longer. I'm only 14 days past my c-section and I know bleeding can start again but it's been a few days with nothing so far.

Like you, I was terrified. Honestly, there was no need to be! DD decided she wasn't going to turn too so I was booked in for a "elective" C-section for right on 39w.

I didn't feel a thing as far as pain and I had the spinal. I did feel tugging, which is really an odd feeling but no pain at all. They spray you with cold liquid to test where you feel it. I was numb up to my breast area. So don't worry about that. They make sure the spinal is working before operating. If you keep up on the pain killers, it really isn't as sore as you'd expect after either. As for your bag, I didn't need anything different as I'd packed loose night dresses and didn't need any bottoms in the time I was there. Just some jogging bottoms to come home in. So just have something you feel comfortable in, it will need to be loose at the incision site.

I breast-fed fine (only lasted a week, sadly I couldn't go on because of the soreness) and didn't bring any formula with me as I knew they had a supply of it at my hospital. So just find out if this is the case at yours before you go.

You will still bleed, it's just much lighter for most C-sec cases. I'd recommend disposable maternity underwear though, they have a slot to put your sanitary towel in and then when you need to change, you just throw them... So much easier for your stay in the hospital. Mine was like a very heavy period for the first 24 hours but then was just like an average flow after and lasted about 4 weeks on/off and was VERY light after a week. I got my "post-baby" period about a month after the bleeding stopped, then the same again for the next one... So I got my cycles back right away, hence why I am pregnant again! Which was semi-planned, don't worry! :haha:

I would much prefer another C-sec to a VBAC so soon after, so that's how successful mine was. I was up walking twice in the same night (had DD in the after noon) and although you dread getting up that first time, it's not as bad as you make it up to be in your head. Of course it's sore, it's classed as a major surgery, but it's not too painful. If you're able to get up and walk to the bathroom (carefully, and at your own pace and with help of course) then do it - because it will help you in your recovery. I was suprised and impressed with my recovery.

It's not an ideal situation when you've planned everything to go swimmingly but what baby says goes, eh :winkwink: Good luck, you'll be fine!! :hugs:

I found out that my baby was breech the day after my due date so had an elective section, I was upset at the time as really diidnt want a section but it was actually fine. Please try and not worry. The worst bit for me was the waiting. the hospital I had my baby at only do 2 c-sections a day I was second on the list and should have been done at about lunch time instead I didnt go into theatre until about 3.30pm emergency sections kept putting mine back. But honestyly it wasnt that bad take some magazines, book, ipod etc just to keep your mind busy hopefully you wont have to wait aslong as I did.

As far as the actual procedure it was absolutley fine the theatre staff were fantastic and talk you through it all. I remember saying to my mum after that I actually liked the feeling of the spinal it was a bit like when you go to the dentist but its your legs that go numb IYKWIM, I didnt feel a thing.

I mangaed to breast feed after and yes you are a bit sore after wards but they give you regular painkillers. The other bonus of having a section is that you wont be as knakered than if you had been in labour for hours on end and baby will have a lovely shaped head as wont have been all squished by the birth canal lol!! Good luck you will great

P.S you do bleed down below as normal so you will need maternity pads and get some big knickers - bridget jones time -that come above your pubic hair line as that where the incision is and so they wont rub on your wound. You will have nice dressing over it anyway so dont worry.
